My daughter is 3 years old and freaks out if I sit her on the potty!

Before we moved to Germany in July she was all about wanting to use the potty and she was getting the idea on how to flush it and how to close the lid and ect. But now today she came into the bathroom with me and was watch me go potty and I asked her if she wanted to give it a try and she said yes so I got up and flushed it and said "Ok, now you try" and I took her diaper off and tried to sit her down and all hell broke out!

So I waited for an hour and the same thing happened! But this time I tried to get her to get on it by herself and she just won't do it. I have a toddler potty and she just sits on it like a chair and wont take her diaper off. I tell her she is a big girl now and she should use the potty but now I feel like I am forcing her before she is ready.

Am I pushing to soon? When and what is a good age to potty train? I was 24 months old when I told my mother "NO MORE" and I had no problems going to the potty. But my brother was 5 when he learned to go potty. The doctor said she will let me know and she does sorta. She tells me like a second before she goes and then takes her diaper off and trashes it and gets another one. To me that says "I'm ready"!

So what is the right age? How do I help hear beat this fear?

There is no wrong or right age, all children are different.

Putting her under pressure is the worst thing to do, and sounds like she is finding it a bit of a game, she is seeing you running round after her.

You could try leaving her nappy off, but leaving the potty somewhere she knows wher it is.

Or if you feel she has a fear of it try a toilet seat, i seem to remember you posting she is very intelligent, she may respons better to using a toilet, as Mummy does.

Obviously lots of praise when she uses the toilet/potty.

Whatever don't make it a battle

It's the toilet she is scared of. The kids potty I have for her, she just sits on it like a chair and won't take her diaper off while sitting on it. I know she thinks this is a game. But she gets really scared if I place her on the toilet I use.

A few min's ago I caught her peeing in the shower. I told her that is not a potty and she told me that it won't eat her. So maybe because the toilet bowl is big and loud that is what is scaring her. Yet the shower is safe? LOLdoh

I don't think it could be too soon.
My 3 kids were all potty trained at 18 months.

My guess is some sort of insecurity resulting from the move.
Wait a week or so and try again.

Yes, it sounds to me like the size of the adult toilet is frightening her. Perhaps she has tried it on her own, fell into it and got a bit stuck ? Could this be a possibility ?

I think you can get a plastic training seat to fit on top of it. Good luck...grin

I have a 3yrd old granddaughter with a similar prob...untill i bought this cool potty from Fisher price, it looks like thrown for a princess or prince as there are stick on's that come with it.
any way this potty play a tune as soon as anything pass's through....it made her so curious how it worked so she did it her self, ok a few times she was to late, but heck it can happen.

so problem solver......I find that boy's are quicker trained than girls anyway...I had 2 boys and 1 girl...

Kids will tell you when there ready for it,no point in pushing them, just when they do finnaly do it.....make a hugh hurray about it, they just love the attention.....

Good Luck...bouquet

I will have to check that out! My daughter would love the thrown. After all when people ask her what her name is, she ALWAYS asks "My name is Darling Princess" and when I say "no your name is Tiffany" she tells me that is her name when she makes No-No's. LOLangel Ahhhhh..... Got to love them at this age!rolling on the floor laughing

OMG I can't even believe I'm in this thread!
Anyway, for starters get rid of the diapers and put her in training pants. Get her one with a cartoon character on it and tell her it wouldn't be nice to soil so & so. Don't use the adult toilet and leave flushing for later after she learns to go. You're trying to teach her everything at once, remove diaper get on the potty, do her business, and flush. Keep it simple. Finally NO NEGATIVITY!!! Set up a reward system for when she does anything good related to learning to go. If you can make it something to strive for it will happen much sooner. Make her WANT to succeed.

Yeah, some kids realy don`t like to see a Creation of theirs get rudely washed away in a swirl of impersonal scary looking water!

Well, one consolation is ..... by the time she is 16 she will most definitely be able to use the toilet! So, just relax, and enjoy her while she is still so tiny and dependent!
