I believe in this sort of thing. I already have done the paper work for when I die. I am donating my brain to science fiction and my private parts for reaserch IN Micro-biology. Any other doners out there. If so, what will you donate.

My body is going to medical science to be used as a cadaver for students or whatever they want it for. The organs won't be much good when I am finished with them.rolling on the floor laughing

After everything I`ve read and heard about with Organ donation .... NO WAYS!

Anyway the earth is overpopulated, and replacing body parts from other people is yughg! I prefer people to just die........ And when I die I wanna just die!... not have a bunch of medical vultures standing by to whip out organs.

Tell me something, anyone ..... HOW does anyone KNOW you ACTUALLY DEAD before you get disected? They still want the warm blood going thru the organs .............dunno

Got this on Wiki......

Deceased (formerly cadaveric) are donors who have been declared brain-dead and whose organs are kept viable by ventilators or other mechanical mechanisms until they can be excised for transplantation. Apart from brain-stem dead donors, who have formed the majority of deceased donors for the last twenty years, there is increasing use of Donation after Cardiac Death - DCD- Donors (formerly non-heart beating donors) to increase the potential pool of donors as demand for transplants continues to grow. These organs have inferior outcomes to organs from a brain-dead donor; however given the scarcity of suitable organs and the number of people who die waiting, any potentially suitable organ must be considered.

Althought being brain dead has been proven to be something that people, in the right circumstances can recover from and remember what happened to them,:ie: that the conciousness can live beyond brain death.....so hard knowing if that can be counted as criteria any more for harvesting.

I think it is now considered to be a given, that if a person cannot live without a machine doing the body's work for it, where vital organs cannot function on their own, that organ harvesting is considered ok.

It's actually a real dilemma. Imagine your son/daughter is going to die, but if somebody gives him/her an organ, she/he can lives...

Now the guy who gives his organ is dead. car accident or something like that. it's a guy from your country, not somebody from an unknown coutry.

Do you still want to lose you son/daughter ?

I've got my donor-card. There's just my heart I keep for *me*

Everyone dies - eventually - from something. No-one gets out of life alive!

People have allowed themselves to be removed from the actualities of death - like its something that does not exist anymore in the modern consumer society - "If the body organs dont work .....We can get another one".

Children are "On Loan" ..... you just lucky if they don`t die before you do - its more natural for parents to die before their children.

Personally I find it more morbid when people refuse to discuss death! Its like they`re afraid of it? If more people were more open about it - it may come back to being something people can accept as a natural function of life?

In my opinion, organ transplants has opened an ENTIRE culture of black-marketeering...... Any of you heard about the people who wake up the next morning to find themselves in a bathtub of ice - with a note for them to remain in the tub of ice, and phone Emergency Medical Rescue? (a phone is placed handy to them). Groups of medical students have removed both their kidneys.

Why not grow those damn thins, instead depriving someone else of theirs by whatever means?

and Stemcells do not necessarily have to come from a Fetus

I am at the age were it would be impossible to donate an organ even if I wanted to. In fact by the time one is in their mid 60's in this country, you are at the bottom of the list as a recipient. Over 60 and they dont want your organs over 64 and you wont get one either.

smoky: Thank you, you just answered your own previous statement ... the person is Alive, albeit artificially, but still Alive.

Alive was only a word I used for convenience, I should have said functioning.

Alive is alive. About any noises they may make - well there is a difference to groaning using the voicebox as opposed to the escape of gasses.

Gases escape past the voicebox too. I have seen this for myself.

You people are being duped into this money making scam! Where there`s money to be made - there are experts tugging at your heart-strings.

I hope you are not lumping me with " you people"........and I have never followed a crowd in my life......

If you read my original post I said I wanted to be used as a cadaver for medical students. Never mentioned organ donation.........

I only answered this thread to keep it going, and acted devil's advocate.

As for your nurses. In the olden days they did not train on cadavers. Doctors did. Their only job with the dead was to dress them and have them presentable for families. They could be a lifetime doing that and never come across a "noisy" cadaver.

I am sorry to hear about your son. That will certainly have coloured your experience of all this.

Nein, I do not lump you with any "you people" - just having a discussion here.....hug

Oh, sorry, I forgot to mention the nurses were South African girls ... they got to, as you say, handle the dead bodies, wash and clean them (lay them out?) and trundle them down to the morgue. Yea, maybe they were some dumb girls. Anyways, whatever it was, it put them off cutting up bodies on life-support systems (artificial breathing and blood pumping stuff).

But, I say - Never say Never. Maybe one day I donate my lungs to someone?!devil grin They work very well, exceptionally well ... even after 40 something years of smoking....cool
