wordsmith99: Hi Imma

If you keep moving that rib, it's never going to heal properly. Imagine a cracked stick... would you glue it up and keep jiggling it around before the glue had set? No! You'd hold it still...

So I think you need a doctor's sick note for at least a week, and REST! No cycling, no work, no singing, no stairmaster, no cardio exercises, in fact no exercise at all... a good balanced diet, lots of sleep, lots of fluids and some prescription painkillers so you can sleep if the pain keeps you awake.

Pain indicates damage. If you move and it hurts, that is because you are damaging yourself. So don't do movements that hurt. Wait for your body to heal.

Oh and last tip - arnica cream is good for bruising, if you're bruised, which it sounds like you might be...

Oh and "The Boat the Rocked" is a great film to watch when you're off sick.

Good better soon

The best advice here Wordie.

Imma needs to get off that stairmaster and quit the jogging for a while otherwise it will never heal.

pastortim: If it is a fracture, then aspirin, eating alkaline foods and rest are the only best cures.
If you think its something else, then drink lemonade made with honey, do not use sugar. Avoid sugars in your diet, which also avoid high fructose corn syrup in foods. This will make your body alkaline and healthy since cancer or tumors cannot live in an alkaline body.Or every time you drink water or tea, put a slice of lemon in your drink. (Eat the lemon after too).

There are PH strips you can buy from any drug store that you can measure your PH level with to make sure your body is alkaline.
Should be 7.0 to 7.6 or even to 7.9 for a good alkaline body on the PH level.

Should it not be 'acid'? dunno Tumours cannot live in an acid body, that's why you correctly said the body needs to be slightly alkaline. Funnily enough, drinking lemon juice does not make the body acid, as you would know though. It's just a curious thing, so I wanted to mention it to those who might not know.

immanuelle: I work with special needs kids. We had an incident a few weeks ago and I walked away with a fractured rib. Didn't even realize it at the time. I went to the doctor's as the swelling was ridiculous and I was having a hard time catching my breath. She said that things are only 'addressed' if there is a fracture in more than 3 places. I only had one and my lung was not punctured. So, I am supposed to just wait it out (kind of like a broken toe), but are there any other tips about dealing with this that y'all might have heard of. It hurts like hell and I cannot catch my breath when I am cycling on my bike or trying to sing while teaching our weekly music at school or doing morning circle.

Goodness, Imma, is it a kind of 'three for one' deal style of medicine there??? You poor thing.

Broken ribs are very painful, but not much that can be done, other than maybe strap yourself up around the midriff area to keep that area firm. It will heal on its own. Also, fractures on ribs generally don't show up in X-rays until well after they have healed fully. I suffered fractured ribs in a car accident years ago. Unfortunately, even though I told my doctor I was allergic to 'elastoplast', he strapped me up right around the torso. What a rash...I was on fire!very mad Cortisone cream/tablets, the lot.

It will take a few eeks, just be careful and take it easy.

Besides, should it not be a worker's compensation claim???!uh oh

The living body is the best pharmacy ever devised. It produces diuretics, painkillers, tranquilizers, sleeping pills, antibiotics, and everyithing manufatured b the drug companies, but it makes them much, much better. The dosage is always right and given on time, side effects are minimal or nonexistent, and the directions for using the drug are included in the drug itself, as part of its built-in intelligence.

Now THAT was cooly put! And so true...

Hello hello.

The Boat that Rocked...I am gonna try and rent it to watch. I just read the write up on it. Looks good. Takes place on the North Sea. That makes it even cooler as 'The North Sea' is about a 15 minute bicycle ride from where I live in The Hague. Thanks.

Hi Ven,
I can understand the strapping thing as my rib feels better when I put pressure on it. I just came back from the doctor's. She wrote a referral for an x-ray. I have an appointment in about 1 1/2 hours. Although much cannot be done, I would sort of like to know. My imagination is my worst enemy. I have visions of my lungs having been punctured like a purple balloon and all the air is leaking out and making air bubbles in the rest of my innards...Yup...

You wouldn't be here typing on the computer posting on CS if that were the case!uh oh

But I do wish you well with that. At least you will have peace of mind that about that step in the process has been attended to.

Just be careful not to strain, but you know that.hug
