Three things that really hit me when I landed here....

1.Light so intense it was like having my eyelids peeled back.

2.Heat so hot like walking into a blazing inferno.

3.The smell of food so strong felt like I,d just got my sense of smell for the first time.

What about you.dancing

Ah - I can relate to those, albeit to a tad lesser degree.

About this place:

1. There are palm trees here! Everywhere!! And cacti! And bushes and trees that bloom in Autumn! And we have cute little green parrots that live in our local little park! cool

2. You always see the city's street sweepers and gardeners cleaning, washing, clearing up the streets, parks and beaches. applause

3. The street intersections are cleverly shaped like a little square - making for higher visibility, extra parking spaces and a more open feel to the town. And driving through these intersections, you are usually surrounded by dozens of scooters! motorcycle motorcycle motorcycle

Here:

Loads of people, not just kids, get around on little one-foot push-scooters (as opposed to motorised ones).

You hardly ever see a hippy or a punk.

The place empties out at the weekends.

1. It`s not polite to enter a pub restaurant and sit alone if there`s a free chair at anyones table.

2. When people enter a supermarket they greet everyone else in it.

3. When people leave a supermarket they shout a general goodbye to all the cashiers and everyone still standing in queus.

The above applies to small villages like mine - not big cities. We have not been invaded by foreigners yet.... the local culture still pervades. SO nice!

Even in the Big City Quarters it applies to a certain extent, since there are usually Neighborhoods, where People see each other repeatedly.
At the Tramstop,Foodstore etc,you will see some of the same People over and over, and you'll greet them, even though you don't usually know their name.laugh

In other places I've lived the colors of the sunset were brilliant and strongly dynamic, here in this part of France sunsets are soft and pastel and even bright sunlight has a sort of softness to it.

There's a sort of assumed human equality for people of all social levels. Money still talks, but it whispers instead of shouting.

There are few really obese people here and the girls are nearly all slim.

where i live everyone does the same things on the same day-shoping on sat,and house cleaning.out on sat night, sundays to visit parents for lunch.they even all travel to the mountains on the same day each year-and sit in traffic jams all the way!

summer feels very social as everyone sits on their balconys or outside there houses every evening-cept sat.

winter all the people disapear to hibernate, hidden under quilts,on the couch,tv remote in hand.

The light here in Donegal is unique, (reflecting off granite mountains), and artists prize it.

As well as being quite mountainous here, like the rest of Ireland it is very green and soft, (usually because it rarely stops raining year round).

Tá grá agam gur bhfuil beirt teánga againn. Roughly translated that means that "I like that we have two languages", (which most people here slip in and out of as the occasion arises).wine

I can look all respectable and sympathetic when I hear stories about the other South Africans........grin

We only have sunshine - REAL sunshine in Summer. Now is just misty, rainy, windy, cold and damp.

We also got water .... the Rhine river a few km away ... only good for summer boating and picnics.... or walking along the banks.

Wine ..... lots of vineyards on the hills around village, lots of Winemakers in village ... nice wine (I`m told), but I still prefer my scotch whisky ... or cheap plonk from other countries.
