Phoenix .... ovens you cook inside of ...... stoves/cookers you cook ON. Dont confuse me...... I am always afraid of gas cookers .... going BOOM! And I cant manage to bake inside a gas oven .... so prefer electric oven. BUT cooking on gas plates is much quicker and more efficient.
But actually, now that I have the choice, I prefer to cook on wood! Wood oven gives a completely different and more delicious taste to anything cooked in it. And while that oven is going, I get to cook on the wood stove next to it.
But .... its nice, when in a hurry, to have the electric one to switch on, without having to get firewood and make the fire!
Got a small gas one for any dire emergency ... like if a Neutron Bomb goes off and I have to huddle down in the bomb shelter.....! hahahaaa
Definitely gas to cook with. Until my new Italian chef size cooker, I had always used gas oven. Now of-course gas cooktop with electric oven tends to be the norm, and for good reason. I like the added choice of fan-forced electric griller/oven. Wonderful for perfect grilling/roasting. It's also healthier this way, as before there was always the slighest of gas leaks with previous oven.
Wood is best, in a big old wood-burning range with a flat iron top so you can shuffle the pots with a long stick like a croupier gathering in cards. Also brilliant for slow cooking.
Otherwise, electric oven and gas burners on a hob top.
I loved gas when I had it, after all, I invented wok cooking. Stir fry is so....sensual. Also, you can light your ciggie from it when you've lost your lighter. Not good for eyebrows though.

I have an hardly used cast iron bakers wood oven, with thermostat, at a 'farm' property I have. But I never get to go there in winter time to use it!!!!!
I like the speed with which a gas cooker or oven heats up. Electric ones take ages to get up to temperature. Having said that I have electric at the moment, halogen top and elecric oven.
I don't find the actual cooking any different with either gas or elecric. Things tend to take their own time to cook no matter what you cook them on.
I prefer gas for cooking meals and electric for the oven. The only disadvantage is, we have only big bottles for gas. But soon our houses get natural gas, then it`s much easier :-)
costagirl: Electric, we have no natural gas here and all has to come in bottles, and they are heavy
No Repsol deliveries to your door ? Tis true when full they weigh a ton, even for a big bloke like me.We,ve got a waggon comes round every morning and thet bring it right into your kitchen, same price too.
Personally I prefer gas, which is only dangerous if you,re not careful, simply put I find it much easier to control changes of heat with gas. It,s quite cheap too.Got no heating (got that big orange thing in ther sky)so no heating bills.Gas bottle costs about ten euros and lasts a month.
