But ... Nettie has NO cohorts! Everyone here disagrees with him - he is alone in the world - a Lone Avenger - All alone in the Universe - his little voice falling on cruel hard-hearted beef/pork/sheep/chicken eating deaf ears!sigh

Just a thought that crossed my mind .. it`s empty at the moment .. waiting for illumination ...... What does Nettie think of Big Game Hunters?..... or Poachers who kill just for the ivory?...or the Rhino horn? ... or Snare Setters who dont return to check their snares?confused

.... Or he should visit SA and give some voice to "indigenous hunting" where packs of dogs chase down little buck in suburban areas, trapping them against wire fences and then mauling them to death .....?

I wish he would stick around and give logical clear answers ..... ?sigh

Now that would be a Tirade,similar to the ones he's let loose in the Hunting-Thread in the Intnl Forum,in other words,he'd really would make a Horse's Patoot of himself,including foaming at the Mouth.
Some so-called "Hunters" need their Kneecaps blown off,though!mumbling

Now,after this pleasant Interlude,back to Asteroid-Hunting.grin

Not exactly - The asteroid is known as MN4 and will pass about 18,500 miles above the earth only ... bear in mind that geostsionary satellites are about 22,500 miles above earth ... so depending upon if it wipes out half the satellites or not, it could be disasterous .. or not...

I am sure that there is more up to date information than this (2008) and you can be sure that the scientists are constantly checking trajectory information to make sure it is right ..

There is (was) a 1:50 chance of it hitting the earth .. its about 300 mtrs diameter, so that could make a sizeable hole in the earth (or tsunamis if it hits the sea) and the debris would create a kind of "nuclear winter" ...

There are others - smaller - due to pass earth at about 100,000 miles (moon is 250,000 miles ) near the end of 2012 ......

Have a nice day !! grin

Every "crisis" nowadays has to so big, so terrible, and widespread that it requires international cooperation.

Global Terrorism
Global Pandemics
Global Warming
Earth threatening asteroids

With so many extremely critical global projects on the agenda, they might as well set up a global government to streamline the operations.

I wonder why they haven't thought of that yet.

Elley: The day Smokey was born
Ahhh .. ONE man who appreciates my TRUE worth! Yes, the last time an asteroid hit earth was the day I was born. Yes. I don`t boast about it, cause I was told to be always humble ..... "the meek shall inherit the earth...." ... you know the story huh?

Asteroids have always been zooming around and just missing the earth, since long before I was born .... you all just been unaware of them ...... you never had television before, or international communications ......

Only worry, truly worry, when I die one day .. then there will be no more reason for earth to exist......comfort cheers

Stop all the clocks,cut
off the terlephone,
Prevent the dog from
barking with a juicy bone.

Silence the pianos and
with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin,let
the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle
moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky
the message He is dead.

Put crepe bows round
the white necks of the
public doves,
Let the traffic
policemen wear black
cotton gloves.

He was my North, my
South, my East and West,
my working week and
my Sunday rest.
My noon,my midnight,
my talk,my song;
I thought that love
would last forever;I
was wrong.

The stars are not
wanted now; put out
every one;
Pack up the moon and
dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean
and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can
ever come to any good.

W.H.Auden on the death of his life long lover (a male,as it happens)and for me one of the most movingly beautiful love peoms ever. Knew if I waited long enough round here I,d get the chance to quote it,though hopefully not for a long time yet.wave
