Who else has such a commanding voice that even dinosaurs obey? Actually, was not my voice, per sé, they obeyed ... just the sheer power of my personality. One day I got sick and tired of the size of their turds all over the place and told them its time for them to cease breeding .... and slowly they became extinct.

Otherwise, you humans would still be picking up dinosaur size turds when you take them walkies on their leads!

Tis the advantage I have of being able to see far into the future..........to make your lives more pleasant!

Elley: Stop all the clocks,cut
off the terlephone,
Prevent the dog from
barking with a juicy bone.

Silence the pianos and
with muffled drum
Bring out the coffin,let
the mourners come.

Let aeroplanes circle
moaning overhead
Scribbling on the sky
the message He is dead.

Put crepe bows round
the white necks of the
public doves,
Let the traffic
policemen wear black
cotton gloves.

He was my North, my
South, my East and West,
my working week and
my Sunday rest.
My noon,my midnight,
my talk,my song;
I thought that love
would last forever;I
was wrong.

The stars are not
wanted now; put out
every one;
Pack up the moon and
dismantle the sun;
Pour away the ocean
and sweep up the wood.
For nothing now can
ever come to any good.

W.H.Auden on the death of his life long lover (a male,as it happens)and for me one of the most movingly beautiful love peoms ever. Knew if I waited long enough round here I,d get the chance to quote it,though hopefully not for a long time yet.

Beautiful poem.

A sister-inlaw once remarked - the end of the world is when you die...

Clever I think...

victor_meldrew: Not exactly - The asteroid is known as MN4 and will pass about 18,500 miles above the earth only ... bear in mind that geostsionary satellites are about 22,500 miles above earth ... so depending upon if it wipes out half the satellites or not, it could be disasterous .. or not...

I am sure that there is more up to date information than this (2008) and you can be sure that the scientists are constantly checking trajectory information to make sure it is right ..

There is (was) a 1:50 chance of it hitting the earth .. its about 300 mtrs diameter, so that could make a sizeable hole in the earth (or tsunamis if it hits the sea) and the debris would create a kind of "nuclear winter" ...

There are others - smaller - due to pass earth at about 100,000 miles (moon is 250,000 miles ) near the end of 2012 ......

Have a nice day !!

Thanks!mumbling

2012 you say.confused

OK...time to party like it's 1999!!! head banger

RayfromUSA: By the way, when was the last time an asteroid hit earth?

1908

Ok technically it didnt HIT earth - it exploded in the atmosphere, and it COUlD have been a comet and not an asteroid..

Fortunately, it hit a remote area of siberia, but devastated thousands of square miles of forest. Couple of hours later, and London would have been devastated.........

Look up Tunguska on wiki ..
