I've a real head ache........I can't connect to the net via wifi..only through ethernet...
When I use my wifi adapter it sends packets but won't recieve
I've tried all the obvious...obtaining an ip automatically, manually...ran the network set up wizard...I have configured my TCP/IP settings properly...
I seen this on another forum...it didn't work either...
While still using the router, plug each machine into it independently of each other. Turn off ICS and re-run the Internet Connection Wizard, this time picking the option that goes something like "This computer connects directly to the Internet". Stay away from that "Connects through a home Network or residential gateway" business. You'll have to reboot (or do the IP Release/Renew thingamajig) to get the computer to acquire a new IP Addres directly from the router.

Basically what ever I try it says.........
'limited or no connectivity'.
Any ideas.... I'm at a loss

Radders I'm working through the link you posted...About the only thing I haven't tried s backing everything up, re-installing and starting from scratch...
I reckon it should work with ubuntu.......but I can't find the drivers for my wifi key...I can only get versions that work with Bily Boy Gates...
I'm going to open a bottle of Sarko's and maybe through the haze I'll find a solution.....
Obviously you haven't forgotten that you can ring your ISP helpline... you've already done that, haven't you? They got all the various desktops and laptops in the various houses up and running... took a bit of time and fiddling but they did it!
Good luck, pass me a glass of that Sarko's will ya?

Salut...
What, when it's at home is an ISP helpline????.......Straight up, this is 4 days on the same problem . And I've tried everything I know.......
If any one wants me to cut and paste a Start---RUN---CMDipconfig or ipconfig/renew...or any thing else and it throws light on the subject,I'll be forever in your debt...

what i would try would be to go the windows xp/vista/7 connection manager (centre reseau et partage) left column in vista and 7, properties of your wifi connection in xp) and delete all profiles, then try to connect again
then i would check if the wireless connection is secured, if it is i would disable it on the modem/router and give a try
i would also check the signal quality, how far is your computer from the modem/router?
etc, etc...
wireless networking is simple and basic, its only a matter of opening your eyes and watching the right spot... also is your computer recent enough to support the type of wifi your modem/router is broadcasting?
maybe is it only an ip conflict which means another computer is using the ip address your router decided to give to your computer...
start by checking all that, use google for what you didnt understand in what i've said and come back to us with the results

I'm about 2 meters from the modem...and when I plug in my ethernet it's fine...Signal quality is perfect and it says I'm connected........

my PC can handle wifi.....that's not an issue.

If it was an IP conflict it would signal it in the same way it says 'limited or no con...'

Mods...anyone
I'm ......bottom line is I'm sending packets via wfi..but I'm not recieving........And I'm tried everything that I can think off. In the sprirt of showing good will to all men at this time of year...........
Thanks for the Sarko's - I need it I tell ya. I've been wrestling with an absolute pig of a translation for two days now and have finally knocked it to the ground and sent it off to be checked. So my desk is finally clear til the end of the year!!!! Hoooray, pass another Sarko's mate!
ISP Provider is the people who supply your broadband/fixed line connection: Orange, Alice, Club-Internet etc. They all have helplines and most of them are now free... so give them a ring (the telephone number should be on your contract somewhere or if you've lost that, on their website, usually well-buried) and get them to help you sort it out.
Yeah! An I've got some rosie here. Luverly stuff... have a glass! Tomorrow is another f-up etc etc... the cats are going potty cos there's no cat food left... ah well...
lint874: When you go into the admin page of your modem / router what does that say - inparticular the wireless settings?
Has your wireless connection ever worked? If it did, can you think of anything that might have changed to stop it working?
Also do you have firewall software running on your PC? If so what happens if you temporarily disable it and then try your wireless connection? What happens if you try a different wireless enabled PC with your modem / router?
What happens if you take your PC round to someone elses house and try to use their wireless connection?
Lint this is a new router....I know the wifi key is ok......Everything worked before.
A few weeks ago the router died. I got in touch with the supplier and they sent out a replacement. Since then I can't wifi........
No setting have been changed on my PC. The wifi key worked perfectly before. And it works on another PC.
I'm sending but not recieving.........
I've tried all the promts I can think of, winsock....Apart from backing things up and reintalling....I've no idea.

OK, so did you set up a synchronised encryption key on your PC and old router (you should have done for proper security)?
Have you reset your encryption key on your PC so that it matches your new router? This key will have changed with the arrival of the new router.
Do you know how to get into the admin pages of your router via Internet Explorer by typing the router IP address into your PC when your connected via an RJ45 cable?
Just whilst P is wrestling with pc spaghetti...my colour tv works fine, but when I plug in my dvd player or my sons Playstation I can only get black and white pictures.
