Yesterday I had to return to a school where I worked all year to sort out .. whatever .. and since I always took the 12:53 afternoon train to get to that school, which is about 20km away, I punched my ticket and jumped on without a second thought.

However, as the school is now on holiday, the train doesn't stop at that station anymore. It finally came to a stop some 70km further down the line laugh

My question is, have you ever taken the wrong train?

Yep, fell asleep on the last train one particular evening when living in Canada. Miles away from home, snowing heavily, no taxi companies responding so had a long, long cold walk home! lol.

Yeah... did it once...

When I moved out of London I had to do the commute thing between London and Surrey....
One evening I stayed in London for a girlie night out, missed my last train, dashed across to another platform and boarded a train which (I thought) would stop at my required destination station, fell asleep, and was eventually woken up by the voice of the conductor saying "wake up lady, we've come to the end of the line"..... Thankfully for me this guy was really helpful and got me on a "milktrain" to Woking from where I could get an early morning connection home.... Phew!doh doh

What are trains?dunno Haven't had them here in my time.

20km + 70km = 90km

For a 90km trip on the island you have to go round in circles a few times.

I really do not like trains.

And then I had to take a train to Austria - from Zurich.

No one told me that they dont call Austria "Austria" in Europe.

So I was in the train, sitting down, but checking with everybody that THIS train was going to Austria ... and one lady said "NO! Ees gos du Osterreichgh!" ..... god, I nearly wet my pants! .... but the train was already moving so I just sat back and thought "What the hell, wherever its going I`m going! got no choice in the matter now"

That was the day I discovered that Austria is called Ostereich in Europe. drinking

Lots of times especially in other countries. It´s part of the fun of trying to find your way around I think.

I have no sense of direction whatsoever, so it isn´t difficult for me to end up somewhere I never intended. laugh

Once upon a time…

…came with a (right) train from SPb to Adler (Black sea) and had to go by a bus to our destination for about 30-40 min. Took bus number 68 instead of 86, discovered the mistake few days after that, never regretted.

I agree - when you have all the time in the world and no particular place to go, getting on any old train is fun ..

Lucky .. Nice beats Milan anyway in my book ..wine

I have a variation on that theme .. I once took a coach from Brussels to Vienna, which then went on into Eastern Europe .. I didn't dare sleep a wink the whole overnight journey in case I missed my stop and woke up in Budapest needing to return ..

Isn't it horrible when your station stop isn't the terminal ..

No, came too late from the salt mine. But swam in (at? on? does it matter?) Saturday. (Have photos, can’t lay them out on this site, don’t know how.)

SPb is short for Sankt-Peterburg, Russian side of Baltic sea, I thought that was obvious – there’s no other town with abbreviation SPb on this very planet.

dunno
