About 3 years ago I met and got chatted up by Alan Hudson who, as well as living in Cyprus at the time, came along to a charity-book signing night to promote one of his books...
He brought along some video footage which featured him playing for Chelsea together with some fantastic shots of some of George Best's most memorable goals... not to mention some insider juicy chit chats....
George Best without a doubt was a fantastic and unforgettable football player who lived up to his name.... "Best"
taff1: I'd say he was definately the most naturally gifted player. Amazing footie player for sure. Some will say Gazza was almost as gifted and I'd agree really.
Yes, I believe that Gazza was an excellent player in his day...
I think it is such a shame the way in which the private lives of those lovely, talented, guys eventually overshadowed the work for which they were nationally and internationally applauded...

it is difficult to compare one generation to another one era to another but as all time greats my 3 choices are sir stanley matthews stoke and blackpool george best man utd and pele all great players with a place in the history of football

All great player for sure. Clough I always thought should have been England manager or at least an international manager!! As for Van Basten, I think he scored one of the best goals ever for AC, that beautiful full volley across the box and into the far corner. Not sure who it was against, but what a goal. I can't really argue with that tam being up there as the best ever. Nice choices dvx.

im old enough to remember the 1953 cup final mathews and mortenson were fantasticI think we should pick the best ever players to form a team/ squad .. it should be understood that all players are at the height of their career regardless of age / when played in reality ..

A bit before me mate, but legendary names nonetheless! I think they'll still be talking about Mathews for many years to come.
About David Beckham I don't think he was a grt technical player, but he was the kind of player all team needs. Great in death balls especially free kicks, one of the best crossers i've ever seen and he was that kind of player that used to do a lot of dirty work in the pitch. Even if sometimes he used to loose his temper ( remember the game agains argentina), he's also a great example od being a sports man means.
I'd have to agree on Best as my all time top player. He was a loveable rogue - dated one of my sisters back in the early 70s when she was Miss Bristol 
And as for players on a team - I'd have Peter Schmeichel as my goalie. His stint at United was top rate - he is definitely one of the all time top goalkeepers
