Well, I do open the car door for a lady when I'm out on a date.

As for holding the chair out for her etc in public places, it depends as I guess that can seem a tad corny at times.

Short answer is no...All I hear is women wanting to be treated as equals..So they can open my doors, take me breakfast in bed (or let me have them for breakfast).. Hold my chair out when we go for a meal...Do women treat men with respect..?

I don't think opening doors for a woman, walking along the kerb side of the footpath (I know, a tad oldfashioned, still..)makes mena and women less equal.

There is still the dance to be danced, Phoenix. And in this dance, there are many synchronous steps. A man still wants to lead, still wants to be the hunter. You can argue against that, Phoe, but as every day goes by, I find that to be more and more true.

If a man opens a door for me, I always say thank you. It is the intention behind the act, not that a woman is incapable of opening the door (though there are some doors which require you to have done a major workout to be able to push it open!uh oh ).

I'm quite polite on dates. Other things are like paying the first dinners when you date someone, walking on the edge of the pavement.

But unfortunalty equal rites are mentioned only where girls can take adventage. tongue

While I agree with what you're saying, unfortunately you'll always meet the 'ultra feminist' type who'll see such actions as chauvinism irrespective of the intention behind such actions.

I know, been in the situation myself where I once opened the door and picked up the suitcase for a female friend of mine; only instead of thanks, I got an icy look plus 'you think i'm not capable of doing that myself?'

So let's say it's a bit like walking in a minefield when being gentlemanly. You're damned if you do, damned if you aren't. roll eyes

The dance is synchronised..Here's the steps..He's goes to her office..bumps into her accidentally on purpose and makes some lame reson to take her to dinner..She accepts. They go out, she laughs at his jokes, the drink some wine, she touches his arm...And he takes his reward...

Being polite and mannerable costs nothing, so it's easy to do. There is however a limit as said earlier when it may become a bit corny. Just being a nice, pleasant person to be around should be enough.
