I am having a problem completing a clean install of windows 7 .. it sticks on expanding files - 1% ... I have left it installing all night but no progress ..
any advice? ..

actually I just found out - so I better kill myself
I wouldn't know how to install it from the net onto a computer with no current OS .. I have windows 7 on a disc ..
but it's not installing for some reason ..
maybe it takes days rather than hours ..
I'll just have to wait and see ..

Hi Charlie.. I'm no pc expert, but looking on the web, one solution may be down to the RAM you have.
Not sure what you have but according to the following, having different clock speeds of ram does cause conflict problems.. Hope it sorts it out for you..
Thanks for the suggestion but since I removed the 800mhz strip of ram and left just 2 x 667mhz strips in Ive had no problems - if I replace the 800mhz strip the problems reappear so its deff the ram / bios

I have a windows 7 disc and I've just downloaded ubuntu from the net and burned it to a disc also .. but neither op installs from boot up - I think the problem is my dvd drive .. I'm speaking about another computer and the boot sequence is correct .. I think I'll have to buy an external dvd drive to see if it works ... which is better, windows 7 or ubuntu? ..

the windows 7 is an os disc from the local supermarket
