On Saturday I'll be chucking some camping gear in the back of my car and heading off to Calais. From there I'll spend a few days driving through France, Belgium, Germany, Switzerland / Austria and on to one of Italy's finest campsites. Where I'll spend a week lazing about on the beach before meandering my way back home.

Nothing booked, apart from the ferry. Another one of those make it up as you go holidays. I'll be checking the weather forecast on Friday evening and may ammend my plans accordingly.

I love arriving in France with a full tank of fuel and the prospect of lots of places to explore plus the feeling of complete freedom on where to go.

I love the Alps for their breathtaking scenery.

I love swimming in warm-enough sea on stinking hot days.

For sure, package hotel holidays can be great. And cruises too. With these holidays you gain some comfort at the expense of some freedom of movement.

It'll be great to forget about work for a couple of weeks.

Ok!
My summer vacation this year has been reduced to weekends but I get to travel some because of my work-studies and I went to Colombia a few months ago so that compensates for my nomadic needs.

Would you post some pictures of your traveling?

Never been on one myself, though I know there is a place for them. I prefer to wing it, other than maybe booking a hotel in advance on the odd occasion.

Sounds wonderful. Great to be so free. Enjoy your time, wherever it leads you.

“package hotel holidays can be great”

Yes, they can be and there are many options as to stay a couple of days on one place on your own along with their planning.

Also, a cut can me made and a person can stay longer in a place and get together with other group to continue the traveling. I did it in Verona (Italy) for the Opera a few years ago. I stayed a whole week there on my own.

Those packages cut the prices down for the Hotel and the overall expenses and also all the reservations are made in advance which in many European Countries you have to have and that saves lots of time!.

Traveling alone and on my own I have done it too and not matter how much time you spend in a place, it will never be enough to cover it all.

I would love to go back to all the places that I have visited but one life will never be enough.

As soon as I tell about my plans – any plans, but especially holiday plans – they never will happen. laugh

But in general terms, I’d like to have an autumn holiday somewhere on the north shore of Mediterranean Sea. To prolong summer, so to say.

Thank you, appreciate it very much.bowing Though I’ve checked Wiki – it’s situated rather far from any sea… and swimming is one of the main pleasures in my life.

Again, it seems so far away and so abstract that I have first to get used to the thought itself. I’ve become a “heavy-foot” with age, don’t hop into a sled on the first whim anymore. sigh

My place at this moment is very inland and high altitude but we get in a few hours to a warm place for swimming called "Huasteca Potosina" and that is the most amazing and beautiful place in earth (dancing ) to swim and enjoy great fruits and food I will post some pics of my last weekend trip to this paradise in the wonderful world thread later on.

Have a great day!

And there's a lot to be said for jetting off to the tropics or southern hemisphere in winter. To turn winter into summer for as long as the holiday lasts.

Maybe the birds have more sense than us when they migrate with the seasons?

You know that some campsites in Italy could be sold out.

Don't take the Gotthard Pass when crossing the Alps.
You might spend hours in the traffic jam.

Due to the cold summer, it could be snowy above 2000 meters.

I wish you a safe journey through Switzerland.
