Thank you! bouquet

I’s hoping that some one of the local gentlemen would show some initiative – fat chance. laugh

I always liked this day: when I was child the 8th of March smelled mimosa… and snow was melting, and days become longer, and mama was young…

The very best for all women!

Oh, there are a few directions.

The main issue is the same salary for the same work. For some while ago I saw some statistics (was it BBC home page?) about EU countries. A woman’s salary was 0.86 of a man’s, ceteris paribus. Well… if all workers, regardless of the gender, would get the same salary for the same job, women would lose the leverage, as after all it’s women who stay out of work for some time because of child birth. But I wouldn’t mind if the difference increased, say to 0.96. So, there’s 10 % to go to.

Another angle is ergonometric: a lot of things are made for male average (baby carriages included). From that point of view, as an example, a Japanese car suits better for a European woman – it’s made by a male average all right, but Japanese ergonometric male average is smaller than, say, German. Yes, a lot of things now are adjustable to some degree, but not all and not completely. We can go there.

Then the overall attitude: when I phoned to a lawyer office, they answered that they were very busy right then and I was to phone some time later (better never). I told to the husb (now ex) to phone them at once – to get a divorce was in his interests as well, wasn’t it? So he phoned, and, lo and behold, they had time to speak to him. One minute time difference between the two calls. Wouldn’t be nice to get the same treatment in the same situation? At least once in a while.

Why the same salary? Why not more?

grin

You are quite right; statistics show that women get paid less than men for the same work. However, that depends on the type of job. The more you go up to professional jobs the minor the difference, or not difference at all, or even you see women whom get paid better.

For the ergonomics: well, a lot of things are made for right handed –I am right handed-, a lot of things are made for……..

For the lawyer comment, it is the same like going to the mechanics. Some men will try to take advantages of women - fortunately many- we are not that gullible

I see myself first as a “person” rather than to think in my gender.

There are many things to improve in our societies to make them fairer to anyone, not only women.

Thanks for all the pictures of all those attractive young men. Not my league, ‘m fraid, which is ok as I never met anyone like that in the real life. Do they exist or are they some kind of mythic creatures, like Capricorns and Alkonosts?

Your question reminded me of a joke:

1st person: What would you wish if you met a good fairy?
2nd person: I would wish to win 100 000 dollars…
1st person: Why not a million?
2nd peson: Nah… a million isn’t realistic.

In our society, the women who break down barriers are those who ignore limits.

Indeed, it’s hard to believe. May this statement be a result of language barrier? laugh

The other day, my neighbour women gathered at my place – tea, cakes, gossip… such a pleasant time… One of them said that she read in a Swedish paper that women in Sweden get 4000 SEK (448 EUR, today’s rates) less for her job, on average, per month. One can count how much it will be per year, and then per working life, ca 40-45 years. And that affect pension as well.

“My” gap, is 4330 SEK (485 EUR) per month, 51960 SEK (5822 EUR) per year… It’s Monday tomorrow… Shall I go to work? Have no lust at all…sigh

What you are taking into account is the cost divoreces have on men..Loss of house, extra money for ex, not seeing kids often etc..Swings and round-a-bouts...

Now why exactly are your posts always more than most anti men Tuffy?

My nick here is Tulefel last I’ve checked. Is there any chance you were addressing me? If so, then here’s my answer.

I’m not taking into account the costs for your divorces, I paid my part of the costs for my divorces and forgot about it – it was onetime payment and not very high. I never got any, not to talk about extra, money from you, not from my ex-husbands. My daughter’s father never paid child-support (hope, it would satisfy your desire for equality and justice). That issue settled, what have your private prenuptial arrangements with your exes to do with a systemic salary gap between genders?

Yes, I’m very discontent with the systemic discrimination of women – we don’t get paid for the work we do, for the value we create. Is it anti-men? Ah, yes, as soon as a woman starts to demand same rights and same salary for the same job – it at once turns out to be anti-men. But not to pay a woman what she earns – that’s not anti-woman, that’s complete just.

Tulefel: Of course, to feel good because of doing a certain job and communicating with people you like can’t be measured in money. Just the topic I was carrying through few last posts wasn’t about money only, it was about discrimination. But perhaps it’s time to drop that grief (and start another… )Will keep in mind Hatshepsut until Christmas and then will go and by a false Santa Claus beard.

I must tell you Tat that your comments are a very important part of my coming back to the European forums, I do enjoy them very much, along with a few other poster's posts.

Descrimination exists first in our minds, free it!

This is like having International "white" or "black" days ...... gives people a chance to steam off about all their gripes...?

Is there such a thing as International Mens Day?

Women will be paid the same as men when they are able to do mens work, I think? A girl on a building site is not expected to carry buckets of concrete or heft steel scaffolding into place, or to shimmy up onto a roof carrying roofing tiles.

In offices, women are good at their workloads, but ....... not too practical with working out formulas and/or priorities of importance - they are rather prone to "hysteria" and personalising problems.

smoky: Yes, of course, some women are in construction jobs - usually where there`s multi-tasking to be done. And probably their husbands are at home minding the babies? hahaaaa ...... I still reckon though .... if women were doing what they were actually designed to do confused ... there would not be such a shortage of actual real-paying jobs available...? Women were always so good at making the cash stretch and maintaining a well-functioning home. But them days are gone, I guess?
Now, homes are just broken places where people sleep? After munching their take-away food?

Some people live the way you describe Smoky but others do not.

Let me present you my friends women:

“Y” is an Engineer and a professor with 2 great children –in the honor roll-. Her husband is another Engineer that works for a very important mine. Her cooking is ok and now one of their girls is the one who cooks and does it much better than the mother.

“L” is an Engineer too, her husband is a professor in Literature and both have a special needs “child”, he is in his 20’s but with a mind of a 8 yr old. Btw L is better cook than me, regarding to Mexican cuisine and she cooks everyday.

“L2” she has a Master degree and is the head of a department in a federal office, she teaches also French in one of the most prestigious schools here (she did study French in France). She is a single mother by choice and her son is 17, excellent student and great kid. Someone else does the cleaning and cooking -great- in her home.

“M” she has a Bachelor’s degree in international trading, she works for a federal office in a good position –and good salary-. However, she is starting a new business along. She is single and her cooking is ok.

“G” –older than the rest- has a Bachelor Degree in teaching, married with 2 children who are professionals too. “G” did some teaching but finally went into business, she used to run a very important restaurant in a near by city for many years and that paid her travels around the world and her eccentricities. She is an outstanding chef, for Chinese (her husband was born in China).

etc...

Me, divorced, an Engineer, completed my credits for a MS degree. I do work on my own, making proposals for Sustainable Development and because my work was low last year, I did start a new tiny little business. I do cook everyday for me and my daughter (she still will be with me for some months, that I wish it were longer) and we do enjoy our meals the most possible and frequently with a glass of wine.

All homes described above function and function well and women are still stretching the money and making the homes go.

Home is what you make of it.

Ja, I understand what you`re saying ..... but ..... (excuse me, I always got a "but" to add) ....

They may be great cooks, but .. and here is the But ....WHAT do they cook? That is the burning question of the moment.

My D.i.L is also a great cook, most of what she cooks comes out of supermarkets .... packets, cans, boxes, frozen, freeze-dried - quick cooking?
Farmers wife up the road .... grows her own veges and fruits, bottles in summer ..... makes own pastries .... not a packet of instant stuff to be found in her kitchen - stocks and gravies made from scratch. Long drawn out soups made from cheap meat cuts. That sort of thing, where the woman has all day to attend to the home. Mending clothes. Cleaning. Laundry, etc.

I`m just playing Devils Advocate here, for the moment ..... interesting discussion.
