Poetry, my friend, is like music. If you are educated enough to appreciate it, it makes a lot of sense. Otherwise like music which you cannot decipher, it sounds like rubbish.

So poets have to choose their listeners to make a success with their verses.

I would prefer a bunch of flowers! Or a dinner in a nice restaurant... A poem is too easy and fake in my ears...

Well, I don't know too much about poetry.... but once I had a guy who rigged up a step-ladder outside my bedroom window, and got his friend to play the Bag-Pipes while marching round and round the ladder... upon which was perched my admirer.... singing.... at 2 in the morning! That was rather cute... except they were quite drunk!dancing drinking dancing

Im glad you'd love to find a poem written on your card, but the poetry I was referring to is the one that you narrate to your woman.
The one that you give life and body to by saying it loud in the right tome and with the right expression.

As to what someone else said about preferring going to the restaurant, it is not said that one has to replace the other. Maybe a quiet restayrant is the ideal place to say the poem to the APPRECIATING partner.

Antcus... it was MY backyard! yeah, reckon they could have had the wrong house too? My Dad realy loved the bagpipes though, he joined me at the window to admire the drunken sods..... it was just SO enjoyable!

About the Poetry. Poetry is Romantic. But I am guessing that there are not too many young women these days who would appreciate it? It has to be written, on a card, clearly, so she can take it home and decipher it, and then make a list of questions to ask about the meanings.... after the dinner.

There are some females who appreciate that sort of stuff, and I have seen those sorts at poetry reading evenings.... they the girls who drink Green Tea, eat Lentils and Brown Rice, are Vegans, wear long dresses, bangles everywhere, live in communes, and bang Djembi drums at Full Moon.... they realy dig Poetry, even if it doesnt rhyme.dancing

Hey antcus,

When I said I meant I prefered a dinner in a restaurant, I meant only dinner, WITHOUT any poems. But if you really really insist on telling me that poem... I guess I could stand it for a few minutes...just to please you!

wink

But you know maybe poems are not my strong point. If you wanna be artful after all, why not sing to me or paint a picture of me? Or dance for me while looking into my eyes? That would have more impact on me!

I wish I could please you anyway you want, but a poet is not a painter, or a dancer.
So a painter might paint you a picture, or a dancer perform some tarantella for you, but even with all the goodwill that a man has to please his lady, not all of us have all the combined talents.
So I guess should we ever meet, I will bring you flowers.
I hope you will give me a big smile in return.

Come off it Smoky.

Poetry lovers are to be found everywhere just like the poor and the rich, the sick and the healthy, and what's more, they live side by side, making it impossible to pick either category out.

Besides, a lack of love of poetry is a lack of appreciation of the finer arts like ignorance of fine paintings......no thing to be proud of.

I agree though that less and less people are appreciating the finer things in life! That's why we men of great charm are no longer in such high demand LOL

Sorry Antcus if I have hurt your feelings. I guess I need to attend some poetry workshop some day!

doh Of course.... Gee, sorry, I got just such a brilliant over-flowing brain, soooo full of trivia, and stuffed full of knowledge, from soooo many years on this planet... plus it also has every single item in this house and its whereabouts stored for instant retrieval.....from where is a blue gemclip, to the partner of a missing sock, how much spaghetti is left in the tin, how many steaks in the freezer, where the screwdriver with the pink handle is, how much washing powder is in the box, and millions more of that sort of thing... and I always make the same mistake with Haslows, I mean Maslows Pyramid.cheers

But..... you DID figure out WHO I meant anyway!dancing
