Although i`m no saint, i think that language like that is offensive whatever language its in. We do get lots of people on the site especially women and some respect should be practiced...and as for you my english friend lol KINDLY ask maltese people what words really mean rather than google .......
some words can be misinterpreted, misunderstood and misleading...have a good day people wave

Sonitro...it's not the point of what words really mean or do not mean...the Hafna post was a copy/paste of something that I found on the internet, and posted here because I personally found really funny. It is not meant in any way to be a serious discussion on language. It's meant for a laugh. Every language on earth, has it's "earthy" vocabularly...a lot of people find this not only interesting, but funny, whatever language it's in, if you are broad-minded..This site caters to all walks of mind, from the conservative, to the wildly free-spirited...

...If you can't take the heat, stay out of the kitchen..

Oh i can take the heat mate, more than you think i can , but in Malta we try not to use words like LIBA in public or have them posted on the net. As you can see others have commented about your words and rather than being rude they tried to correct you like i have....now if you dont like that ...you know what to do yourself
you can ignore me together with all the others that find your words in maltese not so amusing. When i lived in the UK, i respected the p[eople of the country......please do that here.....

This is not written or meant for you to take offence.. Lagoona

Ok Sonitro..your point is taken and noted. Thank you for your measured reply. It seems clear that the maltese are averse to seeing their swear-word vocabularly exercised in public. From now on we will avoid using any unacceptable maltese phraseology, and rather keep to the usual english four-letter words for colour, emphasis, and humour. Would that be ok for you, or are you averse to any colourful language at all?..Is it simply that you don't like to see these words in your own language, but in another's, it's acceptable?...

morgan5: Please don't generalize about the British or single out any

nationality for that matter! I find that truely offensive !

This may be a little OT and I've never been to Malta, but afaik Malta is now part of the European union.
This means that they signed up to among other things the fact that all citizens of member states have wide-reaching, possibly equal rights in all the member states.

I mention this because I thought I detected a whiff of xenophobia somewhere in this thread.

As far as swearing, it's entrenched in Anglo-Saxon culture! I agree though that one should suss out the exact meaning of some words before using them. Apparently there is a wealth of cuss words in Bulgarian, but I have resisted the temptation to use them.

Gillie: I know no one comes to the forum to purposely upset folk and of course sometimes people do get upset it is after all human nature, however, no one forces people to look, it's a bit like watching TV if you don't like what's on you turn over.

sonitro: When we men are on our own, its one thing but when others are amongst us [like women] a little consideration must be taken.

You are offensive. First the Brits and now the female gender!! Are you sure that you are living in today's world - this is 2008 not 1898.

can you not read or what???? that was in your favour being a woman and not in any way an offence...you must have really misread mrs. I wrote that some bad language is acceptable when there`s only men at times but when women are present, we should respect them and keep certain words to ourselves...WHATS WRONG WITH THAT????

Sorry but read your post about the Brits in the pubs getting pissed. That is implying that all brits are the same if people wanted to take your post that way, Was just making the point we all can find things offensive

lol yes i agree, maybe this would sort it all out...then i could keep my mouth shut about all this. Now i can get back to my usual self and just ignore everyone BUT i must say...since i have`nt offended anyone, i don`t expect to be offended..if you all decide to give it all to one another, then go ahead but count me out.....

Nothing wrong with that Sonitro...she misunderstood you completely...you are a gentleman, you never use bad language...(at least not while women are around...)...I, on the other hand, actually document my foul and odious vernacular for posterity...I must be mad!...Imagine how this must look on my cosmic CV??...

..I am in need of redemption...
