Hi - my name is Charli - I'm a secondary teacher in Dallas. I teach social studies in a high school of about 1800 students. I've got 17 years experience and still enjoy the job -- but summers off sure are nice! professor

Hi, Charli, thank you for joining and for the pic.

Yes. those long summer vacations are great. I really miss them! when I worked at High School level, I enjoyed as much as 9 weeks off. Now at university it`s only 6, 5 legal and one extra for working over 20 years.

What kind of students do you have? What is the social science curriculum like? Must be fun to teach, I guess you can do so many different activities with children.

Do you also have the issue of big classes? Here in Chilean schools it`s easy to find courses of 40-45 students.

I train future teachers of English. Most of my students are between 20-25 ys old. I work in a state university, which means resources are not abundant precisely, and it`s a regional one, which means it has no other campuses in the country, apart from this one. We have centers in the other two cities of the region, though. Being a state university, our students for the most part are those ones who can`t afford to go to universities in bigger cities. Our city is faaaar away from the rest of the country, in a really isolated area. We call ourselves the "Independent Republic of Magallanes"

How are teachers organized there?
Charli15695
Hi Clara...yeah the summers are nice...except for mandatory summer staff development days...don't think we've ever been able to figure them??! rolling on the floor laughing

I have 12th graders -- teach Government. In our social studies program we offer Geography, Wld History, US History, Government, Econ, Sociology, & Pyschology. We also offer Advanced placement courses in US History, Wld History, Government and Econ.

We have class sizes of about 25-30. The state here has put a maximum of 30 students so that helps -- before that I used to have as many as 40.

We have teacher unions here but they're just organizations - not that effective - we don't have collective bargaining of state employees in Texas.

I would love to teach overseas someday - I'm envious of you!

Good to hear from you! hug

Hello, I´m Jan and I teach general and business English as a foreign language here in Spain.

I chose this job to enable me to travel and so far I´ve taught in Turkey, Poland, Portugal and Spain.

My home has been in Spain for almost five years now(I am English), but I did spend last year teaching in Russia....a fabulous experience!

The only downside is the pay isn´t too great, so I supplement my academy work with private students and during exam periods I work as an examiner for Cambridge.

Good evening everybody,
I am French but have been living for 13 y in Mexico, where I teach in the French Mexican school as elementary school teacher.
Specificity: French school for kids whose parent language is mostly Spanish. A substantial portion of kids are Mexican, many kids of binational couples, and French kids of diplomatics or expatriate executives.

Hi,

I am "Atyafa". I've been a private tutor for 10 years. I don't really make my living from teaching, just as a hobby and passion. During the day, I am a regular employer of organization that provides consultancies to Govt.

Students can give smiles and become my inspiration, especially when my days were hard. I am also a volunteer teacher in community center or orphan house. I teach all subjects, from primary student to highschool/secondary school. Literature, sciences, but my fave are Math, Chemistry, Literature and History. I have no plan to be a formal teacher, coz I want to keep teaching as my passion; avoid being trapped in a system and find disspointement of system (I experienced this many times during my professional work). Teaching is a part of my life and it will be just like that, anywhere, anytime .
