One of the best Chris Isaak albums in my humble opinion.
For the simple reason that it just has all my favourites on it!
Heart Shaped World was Chris Isaak's 3rd album (he has to date, recorded 13 full albums). Released in 1989, it became his breakthrough album and featured the Top 10 hit "Wicked Game". The album was certified 3x Platinum by the RIAA and has to date sold about 2.6 million copies in the United States.
It's difficult to put Chris Isaak into a musical genre. He has been classed as: rock, surf rock, indie rock, rockabilly, blues, rock and roll with a bit of soul, pop and country thrown in for good measure! His singing style has also been likened to that of Elvis and Roy Orbison and he would be the first to admit that they had a huge influence on him.

Cd > Popular Music > Rock Cd > Popular Music > Rock & PopChris Isaak managed to turn his videogenic visage and brooding masculinity to his advantage in a big way, becoming a sort of MTV-era cross between James Dean and Elvis. Heady stuff, but don't hate him because he's beautiful. In fact, Isaak had been plying his trademark latter-day rockabilly sound for some years before the inclusion of "Wicked Game" in the David Lynch film Wild at Heart jolted sales of Heart Shaped World. (But the stylish Herb Ritts video certainly didn't hurt, either.) Still, the album is a moody gem, featuring the pensive title track, the smoldering "Blue Spanish Sky," and, of course, "Wicked Game." If you still doubt Isaak's good intentions, though, check out the album's rockin' finale, a fine version of Bo Diddley's "Diddley Daddy." --Daniel Durchholz
