Sometimes, I buy a CD, and only like a few songs from it. But this CD, I love every single song on it. This is Sirenia's second album, which I consider to be just as good as their first album, "At Sixes and Sevens".
They are a Norwegian band that plays symphonic metal, with yrics that can probably be considered Gothic. I'm not Gothic at all, but really enjoy the darker side of European Metal. I suppose they can be compared to bands like Epica of Holland and Leave's Eyes of Norway/Germany.
There is a low-pitched male growling vocal, backed up with
beautiful feminine vocals and choirs singing a different language
to the most amazing symphonic sounds combined with the hardness of metal guitar and drums. This kind of music can only be
appreciated by listeners that actually like this sort of music.
I first heard of this band about four years ago, from a co-
worker friend of mine, when I wasn't really into this kind of
music, so naturally, I didn't care for it.
But I listened to it again months later as I realized how many
horrible bands my own country puts out and found a new love and
appreciation for European Metal.
I don't even listen to the radio anymore, but keep trying to
find more and more music comparable to Sirenia, Leave's Eyes,
Epica, Nightwish, Within Temptation and Lacuna Coil.
However, the two latest Sirenia albums have a different lead
female singer and I would definitely recommend staying away from the album, "Nine Destinies and a Downfall." But their latest
Album, "The Mind Maelstrom" does have some outstanding songs
but their newest female vocalist just can't compare to their
original.
