Ernest was a Worker, Trusty good and True And for his good Employer there was Nowt he wouldnt do. Ernest laboured daily Doing honest work Always giving of his best Never dreampt to shirk
One day his boss he called him Said Ernest, Listen here I know that you,ve been with us for many a goodly year. But Time is of the Question. In Fact the crux of it. Its time that you retired. A doddering ol git.
So Ernest ambled sadly from the firm that were his life. To say What price has loyalty? to his ever loving wife,
She said they cannot do this, to such a decent man. Ernest slowly shook his head and said Afraid they Can. And now he often wonders at the so called Decent Boss, who never acts so kindly when his profit means your loss.

I liked reading this poem as yes working life has changed so much since I started. Now its all profit and loss, just a number now and no jobs for life anymore. Progress?? something missing I think. thanks for sharing
Hi Danny, sad but true, my job is also under threat, with job losses around the Globe! I liked your words as they are certainly true to form, keep smiling, and have a great day. pauline
