To be proud of a child's achievements is nothing to be ashamed of. Children bring us joy, sadness and so many unnameable things. We should take pride in the good of our children but never let pride itself bring us down in shame.

Pride nourishes our sense of insignificance and makes us believe to be special. If we don't feel pride we feel shame. It's like success. If we don't succeed, we've failed. A guaranteed path to misery.

One of the seven deadly sins isn't it ROS? Freud came up with his own term for it didn't he called 'ego'. Before that all writers just called it pride. Thanks for another intelligent write.
If there is a word 'pride' then the concept of pride exists and will always do. We know that the phrase "to be proud of" does not necessarily have negative connotation. But too much pride brings about too much misery - the higher it takes us the more painful a fall. I agree in this and this point is well made of in the poem. Thanks.
Ladybee. I feel the same way about my kids. Sometime of great accomplishment, they would ask why are you crying? Never fails, but they will only know that when they have there own kids. It is automatically a gift given to Mothers in an instant.
