(The Rise And Fall Of) Pride

Why should the spirit of mortals be proud?
Like a quick speeding meteor
A fast moving cloud!

A flash of lightning
A break of the wave,
Man passed from life
To rest in his grave.

Let pride go, lest shame follow after

Our pride, reasoning pride
Our error does lie
All quit their spheres
And rush to the skies.

Pride still aiming at blessings that abode,
Men would be angels,
Angels would be gods.

To be proud of a child's achievements is nothing to be ashamed of. Children bring us joy, sadness and so many unnameable things. We should take pride in the good of our children but never let pride itself bring us down in shame. hug heart wings

Pride nourishes our sense of insignificance and makes us believe to be special. If we don't feel pride we feel shame. It's like success. If we don't succeed, we've failed. A guaranteed path to misery.

Nice write

One of the seven deadly sins isn't it ROS? Freud came up with his own term for it didn't he called 'ego'. Before that all writers just called it pride. Thanks for another intelligent write. thumbs up

If there is a word 'pride' then the concept of pride exists and will always do. We know that the phrase "to be proud of" does not necessarily have negative connotation. But too much pride brings about too much misery - the higher it takes us the more painful a fall. I agree in this and this point is well made of in the poem. Thanks.

In proverbs in The Bible, it says:

"Arrogance comes before the fall".

How true and how simply you made a huge reeality we all need to know. Greatly written piece.thumbs up wave

Ladybee. I feel the same way about my kids. Sometime of great accomplishment, they would ask why are you crying? Never fails, but they will only know that when they have there own kids. It is automatically a gift given to Mothers in an instant.

Pride goeth before the fall. Keep it in check and all will be well. cowboy
