Insect chatter rides the gusts, birdsong floats on the wane Of wave on wave of sighing wind whispering over the plain; Rustling brush and shivering grass caress and kiss the ear- The peacefulness of cattle country is in the noise you hear.
Tight-bagged cows low gently, calling calves to sup Mourning doves sing concert with a whining coyote pup Then a buckaroo comes riding through, looking like a king But of the stillness 'round about hears not a blessed thing.
Silver rowels the size of pesos rattle in hoofbeat time Ringing jinglebobs sing along in harmony and rhyme; Tiny bells on cinch hobble jangle in the dangle, A chorus line of curb chains tinkles in the tangle.
The cricket in the high-port bit chirps rhythm with its roll Dinging watch fob swings along below vest buttonhole; The royals jewels of the calling make music to his ear, And the buckaroo thinks as he rides along, It sure is quiet out here!
I love your poems!!!!! BUT..... what are Silver rowels?

"YEEEE HAWWWW!" I'm ready to Rodeo!!!! I've got Leaden Trowels and Dingle Berries!!!
Wait.... that didn't sound right! :-) Thank you RoS! So sweet of you to educate me on some cool cowboy terminology! Seriously, I really do like your poetry a LOT!!! You're VERY talented!!! :-)
The sounds came to life in your poem ROS. It is true also that when you get used to them you hardly notice. My first time staying near a noisy streetcar track drove me quiet...then weeks later I awoke with a start because of the quiet due to a Holiday schedule...lol

My husband makes up songs about Dingle Berries.
One of my father's kin was the poet, Philip Larkin, so I come by poetry naturally. :)
If you check out the link I had posted, you'll see some beautiful examples of spurs, bits, etc... :)
Here's a "Cowboy Dictionary" if you will to help you with the terminology. I hope you find it useful and am so glad you like my works. :)
I just don't know how to comment on this, it is simply sublime, and transports the reader into paroxysms of ecstasy...
This a memorable write. Well done you, you are not just a pretty face...
