The Flag Out On The Ranch

It is an old and faded flag, but it is always there
For visitors to see it freely waving in the air;
She says , "I always fly it every time I get the chance
Although I know it's strange to see it here on this ranch".

And when you'd ask her about it, her face would beam with joy
She'd tell how she went off to war alongside with the boys;
She said it changed her to a woman and changed her much too fast,
From scenes imprinted in her mind..but that is in the past.

She lost several comrades
But somehow her life was spared;
And pleases her so when folks would fly their flags,
To show that they too, cared.

Then said, "I hope you'll fly one, and never take it down
Even though you're in the country and a long, long way from town;
Because there's still a lot of good ones fighting hard to keep us free,
Although it maybe for a cause in which you disagree".

Now ever since that day when it was explained all to thee
We know just why she flies it when it's just for her to see;
It's to show appreciation for those who gave their best ,
And that flag is always flying on the ranch here in the West.

Hi Niah cowboy

I know you good folks recently celebrated ANZAC Day and the videos and touching songs that are told in memory seem so similar to Memorial Day. The bush hats worn by your soldiers are the same ones worn by female Drill Instructors here. :)

We can never thank our veterans enough for their sacrifice both here and abroad wherever war and battles have been fought.

I'm so glad you liked this one. :)hug heart wings teddybear

Hi Mary

Another wonderful tale, with such a mixture of poignancy and hope in that faded flag...
