This Old Dirt Road

Life is like an old dirt road cut through many ledges
Because sometimes that is only where we are welcome
Like beautiful flowers growing up upon their edges
Or by a painted mailbox on the last stretch home
Our road is really not a road unless travel is allowed
Or weeds and trees will quickly make it disappear
Our road is not a road unless it is grated and plowed
For pot holes fill with water unless the snow is clear
After many passing storms they always needs repair
Swollen creeks at once will flood and wash away the fill
Every road is a fixed distance going off somewhere
Flat or straight, twisting or turning, uphill or downhill
They will always challange us wherever they will go
Sometimes they are empty sometimes they are full
For everyday we must travel on them whether high or low
Always make your journey happy whether you push or pull
