Parting Session

In the game of solitaire,
what pleasure one can derive
playing alone, against odds, only
with that found within the self?
Life is so much more than that.
’Tis in the joy and pain of connections
like the one between you and me.

Am I here to wash your feet
before the hour of betrayal?
Wash away transgressions
of past years shared?
Purify your heart? Set you free?
Is that what you’re looking for,
all that you want of me?

He loved all twelve, He did,
Even the one that would betray
as, dear, surely, do I love you.
Thus, I ask in parting
with my own cross to bear,
God, please forgive him.
He knew not what else to do.

Dear GNJ

You write with a beautiful delicacy of touch, using biblical metaphor to superb effect...

This is very fine poetry...

Hi, thelmatalla,
Yes, the pain of a broken connection was great; but, at least it birthed a poem! Thank you for taking the time to read and comment. I am pleased that you were touched by it.
