Legend of Mara (Part XXII)

The wedding moved ever so closer. Mara could barely wait especially since the time when she thought that she had lost her beloved
Hulderic the Wolf. Hulderic had become quieter and more reserved since the incident. Maybe it was because he suddenly realised that he could so easily be killed and that he was not invincible.

Usually when a person was given their name it would stay with them until the day of their death. It would have to be an extremely rare circumstance for a name to be changed and this is what this certainly was. Huldric's name was to be changed. All were gathered at the Meeting Hall to hear the Shaman speak. He strode out on the decking in front of the Meeting Hall. Slowly he looked at all the gathered villagers and coughed before he began.

"As you all are aware of the incident that happened that led to Hulderic the Wolf becoming snow white I need not reiterate'", there was a groan throughout the assembled as they knew that he would "But I just need to say that being swallowed by a Schlange and then still living, well that is a miracle. Not just a miracle but intervention from the Gods. Poor Hulderic the Wolf could have been digested in the belly of the Schlange and not stand here amongst us today."

The groaning grew louder however the Shaman chose to ignore it. It was not often that he could pontificate and he was rather fond of hearing his own voice. He believed that they should be grateful to hear him speak, nay not only grateful but should actively encourage him to disseminate his profound wisdom. So having convinced himself, not that he needed to try too hard, he continued to speak for the next thirty to forty minutes.

"And in conclusion" you could hear an audible sigh run through the gathering,"I would like to add my own blessings to this extremely lucky man. Getting back to the main reason that this meeting was called is that the Gods have given me a clear instruction that Hulderic the Wolf's name must be changed. They have told me that his name from this day forth shall be Hulderic the White Wolf."

A stir went through the villagers. To be called Wolf was not too uncommon, however, a white wolf was the rarest creature alive and to be named as such has never been heard of. Hulderic the White Wolf was indeed blessed by the Gods. Mara was so proud that she could easily have burst open. For hours after she still went from villager to villager to talk about this momentous event.
