How did I know you would play me so Like a little mouse Let me scurry back and forth Into your welcome house Then turn my love around Left me laying still Bleeding but alive Now I'm wondering If I will survive Trust your lovely eyes Love to hear your purr Run fingers across your skin As soft as chinchilla fur All is staying calm Warning was not coming When you finally Make a pounce Caught in sudden grasp sharp sunken claws Did I not stop To think of fear Out of false confidence And now I barely move Life is fleeing fast Love's slow death

About this poem:
Love is all about the chase for some.....isn't it?? :))
Hey Summit......You know I never though of all the steps that way...but you are right there!! I mean that's been my experience.....no kidding....maybe someday....we can break that chain.....
what can you do but try to be honest..go with your heart..then hold as best you can to the foundations of your own identity..when the wave comes crashing down upon you...
another great write Yankee,I really like your honest and sincere style...elo...

If its constantly breaking you apart, then its time to let go,love is not breaking, but its joyous. Thanks for sharing this
Thanks PN1 I have heeded your advice....that whoooshing sound is heard.....and moving on is the only way forward...after paying due respects....but let me ask you....is it hard to love again when our guard is still in place?

Hi Yankee
You write with quite fascinating insight into the human condition, and in this particular poem you deal with rejection in its rawest form.
Lucky the person who has never experienced the situation you narrate here... a very fine write...

Hi Yankee,
You've ventured into a more free verse form here and it is very good. A lovely metaphor with the cat and mouse and unfortunately..so true.

How did I know you would play me so Like a little mouse Let me scurry back and forth Into your welcome house Then turn my love around Left me laying still Bleeding but alive
A most excellent poem Yankee.

completely concur with odette there - both on the poem and on the lessons in life, only look back to learn and then move forward. I really like this one and it touches so dear.
Things that are lost are sometimes more than misplaced but are things that are gone forever....and like our life....it will be all over too someday....so moving forward is the only way to achieve true happiness in life....very well put...

you would play me so
Like a little mouse
Let me scurry back and forth
Into your welcome house
Then turn my love around
Left me laying still
Bleeding but alive
A most excellent poem Yankee.
