The war has changed you so Made you mad how life will go Does nothing makes you smile Spending time with me awhile Your days were full of strife And taking away so much life Your nights are sleepless now Just can't adjust them somehow Rounds going off all around Ducking from every sound Your face - so staight laced Lacking joy and lacking grace Such sadness in your eyes Reflections that you despise Can you feel how hurt you are How hurt you make me feel Is there hope up in the stars That still shines down from afar Please hold me close and dear And not make me shake with fear And promise you'll save for me When you shed your last tear

A deeply expressed write Yank..' In a war torn world we all come away battered and bruised. Yet, I believe there is a hope and purpose that shall in the end give meaning and justification to all our suffering.

Very rare a poem brings tears to my eyes...but my word this one did. It reminded me of my uncle who came back from world war2 a changed man...his kids would walk on egg shells when he was home.
Profoundly deep poem Y4Y

Hi Yankee
Exquisite poetry and descriptive narrative - one of those poems which makes me glad that I took the trouble to log on this morning...
Cafe....the write is about PTSD which used to be called shellshock....we all know vets affected...such a hard thing... to deal with...from my own experiences....within our own family....and to think that many still don't understand or experience the aftermath of war....is tragic.....
Odette Many Thanks....I know too well what you are saying about your uncle....bless his soul....

Sad but powerfully expressive poem The haunting cruel debilitating physical and psychological condition that occurs due to the acute shock and trauma of their experiences that sadly affects not only the individual but their families...thankfully more support is available since the condition was recognised and better understood to diagnose and treat

How hurt you make me feel
Is there hope up in the stars
That still shines down from afar
Please hold me close and dear
And not make me shake with fear
And promise you'll save for me
When you shed your last tear
