Slowly burning coals make a soft yellow glow A cabin in the woods draped in billowy snow Smoke pouring out a chimney stained so black Tired feet feeling sore from a long day’s track Neither better place nor more welcome can be sung Than a humble little home where a hat may be hung Shutting out the stormy world once inside the door A time to sip on tea and warm some soup I adore And dressed in flannel long johns curling up with book Drift in time my endless dreams ‘till sleep overtook

About this poem:
Simple little things in life are priceless...like a rustic cabin in a sleepy hollow....
That was very heart warming. Makes me want to make some hot chocolate.

Hi Yankee,
The word that comes to mind is cozy. Appreciating those little things like a roof over your head, a warming fire and some food. What more could you ask for?

Yankee Your poem was like a moving picture in my mind. I love 'Humble'. Simple yet so satisfying. It takes a lifetime for some to realise it's power. Thanks for sharing.
The simple joys of life are the best. Nothing beats the warmth of the hearth fire and the smell of a wood stove to drive out the cold on a winter day. Thank you for your kind reflections and for stopping by. Many thanks.
This is a great poem it explains you and how simple things need to be appreciated in life. Don't let the simple things in life pass you bye without appreciating it. Keep writing i love it. I am not materialistic woman and love the small things in life they make my day.

Hi Yankee
That cabin in the woods appears the most compelling and inviting of havens - a thoughtful whimsical write.
