All This World!
Author: Leonid Derbenev
For May that comes to us in year only once,
For faded dawn and slush of rainy day,
Place blame on anyone for messing up your life,
But never point at me, to you I pray.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.
The daily run of time is not contrivance mine,
It's bringing either joy or sorrow to us.
The world is so devised it happens all the time,
With not so much as hope to make things right.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.
The only thing that helps to deal with such a blight,
The only way there is in flicker of days.
It may be hard for us to scatter clouds in sky,
But our love may grow with each passing day.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.
All this world is not our invention,
No, it's not invention of mine.

The only way there is ...
It may be hard for us to scatter clouds in sky,
But our love may grow with each passing day.
On this optimistic note...Thank you!

"The world is so devised it happens all the time,
With not so much as hope to make things right."
Word for word in the original:
"The world is so devised that everything is possible in it, and then nothing can be set right."
I could have chosen the following options:
"The world is so devised things happen all the time,
But then what has been done can not be undone,"
or
"The world is so devised things happen all the time,
But then the wrong that's done can not be undone."
There is no mention of 'hope' in the original, but I might have opted to deviate from the original for poetic reasons or in order to fit into music. I usually am more constrained than free when translating, but translators do deviate from time to time without damage to content. If this time the content has suffered, I am sorry.
Thank you, dear poetess, for making me think it over, kindest regards!
