Love’s Glowing Ember

Like a bright glowing ember ever flew
Hit my heart and started a fire burning
So there would be no getting over you
Such as me only a fool needs learning

I can’t believe some dreams I never knew
For all they’d do keeps me sadly yearning
For only such a heart that feels so blue
Harden as stone on a cold day turning

Love can only promise what it can’t keep
Always leaving my consciousness churning
Then many a nights when there is no sleep
A phantom spirit that keeps returning

Spare no love that can never go away
That leaves me alone to turn old and gray

About this poem:
This is poetry coming out of nowhere and not really meant to be sad for no reason since i'm only thinking how so much like 'life' is 'love'.....where there's always a 'beginning' and an 'end'.

I m confused, I thought that spare me means keep me away from

And I would read it as
Spare me love that goes away
That leaves me alone to turn old and gray

Am I wrong?

solong...you are right...I changed the 'spare me' to 'spare no' thanks for the correction...it had denoted the wrong meaning entirely.... wine comfort handshake

Hey there Yankee! I really enjoy this particular stanza...

Love can only promise what it can’t keep
Always leaving my consciousness churning
Then many a nights when there is no sleep
A phantom spirit that keeps returning

I can't really say there's an absolute application to it, but there's 'something' really cool about these lines that fascinate me, pique my curiosity and intrigue my mental senses!! Thank you for sharing it with us!! thumbs up

I like this poem, although I wouldn't agree with some of its statements. But... we all have various experiences and thoughts about love, thanks for sharing yours. Good luck.
