My ephemeral lonely wood anemone So delicate and satin soft your face Playfully bounce a dance of Gemini Fill my woodland home with a state of grace
How bright is your white in the dawning light When those first golden sunrays adorn you Making me cheer my morning meadow bright When walking down the old path passing through
Growing sun cause another season past Too soon your lovely face will fade to pink Forever etched in mind your image last Each early spring cause me to catch a wink
Sometimes beauty last only a few days Like the vernal flowers nature displays

About this poem:
A sonnet to celebrate the short and beautiful flowers of spring found everywhere on the forest floor before the leaves of a canopy emerge....it's a truly magical scene...especially the little woods anemones......my favorite.

What is there left to say, Yankee? Another fine sonnet extolling the endless bounty of nature...
Andrew this is such an amazing time of year when whole species that might normally be encountered in the woods, these vernal plants and animals are in full breeding plumage or color...they are brilliant and one can watch the whole life cycle play out in days before the leaves fill out the canopy and the sun......overhead...
Hey Swade... We are about the same parrellel and the trillium and trout lillies are dominent vernal plants here too...3,000 miles East. It's hard somtimes to grasp the size of our country and the simliarities and differences amoungst natural communities of plants and animals. Stranger things are happenning like the timing of bud break and appearence of flowers as well as the hibernation rate of many species is occuring 4-6 weeks earlier than average...very unusual. I don't know what to make of it??

Hi Chris,
Seems like sonnets have overtaken you for the Spring. When I read your poems why do I keep thinking of Robert Frost. Your part of the world I guess. Here it is four seasons in a day and lately mainly rain. Thanks for lifting my spirits.
