Passion escapes on newly emerged wings Take flight dear lover to heights far above Above dull drabby dampness water brings Stay with me awhile we twitter with love
Rest not weary souls for our lives are short Leave all your worries with discarded ghost Our flight will become our grandest consort So before we fall let's make it the most
Who shall dare decry such flights immortal Trudging away slow strides in lakes below Far away sky a pleasurable portal For once, and only once just let it go
Life we cherish is not for the taking For all the more happier love making

About this poem:
Inspired by hatching mayflies, when emerging from water have no mouth parts for which to feed, but only a few days to live with only one purpose left to perform .....to mate on wings

Life we cherish is not for the taking For all the more happier love making. Beautiful poem yankee about the shortness of life... If all the leaders of the world made love more often...There would be no time for wars.

Hi Yankee,
Nice sonnet...when I read your poems so much of it reminds me of Robert Frost. I guess the same part of the world and so much about Nature.

What more can one say about your delightful sonnets Yankee? The closing couplet is a masterly summation of the three quatrains.
