Yankee's Challenge ....the cactus

I am not one to bloom
Ever so frequently
So a cactus i'd say
Would rather suit me
I can sit looking ugly
All year long
If you try to touch me
I will do you wrong
But come the day
When the stars align
An the blossom of me
Is rather divine
From the smallest plant
You will soon see
Hidden beneath
The most amazing flower
Ever to be

I used to have a cactus that only bloomed once a year for one week ... when it did it had the most amazing flowers on it

Not quite what i had in mind Madtat .....dont need any additives he he .......actually have never seen the peyote cactus flower but if its like any of the other cactus it would be rather amazing ...thanks for the comments ...regards n61

A fine choice indeed. The cactus may stand plainly for most of the year but the blooms they have are glorious when they choose to share them with us.

Interesting choice....it is true it may take many years waiting patiently for a cactus to flower...the leafless enlarged stem must provide all the nutrients and transpiration for growth of these very unusual plants...they sort of hold their breath all day long...but breath at night to conserve water...some larger species can absorb as much as 150 gallons of water during a rare storm in desserts where they grow...so it's enough to mention it most conservative characteristics....however....like all plants it must eventually bloom...and when it does it is unbelievably beautiful...I would be at great loss if it were not for my rare yellow Christmas cactus that always blooms right around my birthday!!!! Thanks for choosing Nuwa...and for writing an excellent entry here on the corner!!!

Cactuses are really beautiful even when they haven't bloomed. There's something about them that draws you in. When I went to Arizona and saw them I just wanted to take them all home with me lol. They grow so massive there. Thanks for sharing I like how you wrote this poem, beautiful n61

I recall in childhood, I was told to collect them as they were the only plants I couldn't damage......yet I truly got to love them.....cute poem......Kathy
