I have found you As you found me After so much searching You was in that space They call “Cyber”
And we spoke By way of written words So soft and gentle And a bond was built So quickly That I could not understand Where you had been hiding For all of my past
Once again the sun shone And the clouds of loneliness Lifting before me Made my sky “Oh so blue” And my “Cyberspace” Was now a world away From the millions of others Who sought their solace In this cold And unpredictable Non- reality
And then you were gone Without a parting word Pulling that famous trick Of “disappearing” Before my very eyes And the greatest Show on earth Would continue its journey And I called you My lost “Houdini”

About this poem:
Ever noticed how often a few polite emails and then they are gone, lost forever as if they never existed. What a strange world this "Cyber" world is at times. So I suppose "Houdini" is a good title for one who disappears without trace. Maybe some dont know of "Houdini" but he was the most famous escapologist ever known.
You are Houdini rob, for magically you brought forth these words from the mixing bowl of your mind, now thats what is called MAGIC. beautiful

Rob what a great and true account of what we all go through with this amazing world of cyberspace. I believe, it is so convenient to just fly away without a trace, to some people, but with me, I just can't. and thank you so much for being the first to comment on my comeback piece.
It is so true what you say in this poem. I felt the way you did don't remember how many times. And nevertheless this cyberspace seems as attractive as ever as if nothing has happened. Or maybe nothing is happening in real, and this is exactly what is wrong with it. Hope you are not very disappointed and she who took your fancy "By way of written words So soft and gentle" will either reappear or someone else possessed of similar gentle disposition and keen mind will take her place. Just take it easy, dear friend, don't lose heart for it will prove hard to find your lost heart
Lost and Found
I lost my heart, to a lost world, to a lost cause Not knowing the lost cause - of - this lost world. .................................................. Looking for my lost heart, in this world and it's cause Found the world but no lost heart Found the cause but no lost heart Found no heart and found no lost heart To this world and it's cause Need the lost world and it's lost cause To find my lost heart. This is so beautiful....sometimes only in Cyberspace we can see someone we admire. What a wonderful title.I respect you, you were the first person to make me feel welcome on CS.
Hi, trurorob, Unfortunately, until a face-to-face encounter brings written words So soft and gentle to life, one's heart is at the mercy of "Cyberspace". Thanks for sharing your poetic My Lost “Houdini” lament.
ahh yes...and you are left in doubt...what happened....why..... Sometimes you find out, other times, you chalk it to experience, but it means trust is harder to give next time.... Rob, you relate it perfectly, and Houdini....is a perfect description....just know...sometimes they come back..... Kathy

Hi Rob,
So true...so many Houdinis out there in cyberspace. And a few old stagers too thankfully, who reassure one that there are real people too. Nicely written.

C'est la vie... You touch on a recurring theme here Rob, it's an over simplification to say ALL is smoke and mirrors, but there is an all too familiar pattern.
I personally think that when anywhere outside 'normal' travelling distance is involved, by which I mean within comfortable driving distance or other means of transport, many people get cold feet and start worrying about matters such as 'what if we don't like each other?'
An email or phone call saying "I'm having second thoughts and would prefer not to meet" is far more preferable than a wall of silence: Maybe some people worry more about the reaction of the other person rather than etiquette or good manners.
