In Memory
Author: Mukhran Machavariani
***
All have deceived me, all have failed, -
Of those who once resembled a friend:
Some chose in place of roaming world
To leave it, go to heavens instead.
Some in a traitor’s boat found place:
Trees in the wood, alas, were felled –
And I'm the only tree that's left.

MOM
When you as an infant babbled words,
When in your voice was April heard,
The lullaby sweet your memory holds,
Who sang that song?!
- Who else but mom!
When playing you fell down and hurt, -
Who rushed and picked you up, consoled?!
Who for you vigils kept till dawn,
Sat many sleepless nights by cot?!
- Who else but mom!
Now that you’re holding book in hand,
Who’s placing hopes on life of yours?!
Who restless worries night and day
What future holds for you in store?!
- Who else but mom!
Seeing your goodness in this world,
Who is the one rejoicing most?!
If you proved worthy, noble soul,
Who’d pride herself upon you most?!
- Who else but mom!
