Mathematics

I find it such a worry
To have to work with numbers
Some they say you have to add
I suppose that’s not to bad

But then what happens to the ones
They say you must take away
Do they end up in cyber space
Sitting there so sad and lonely

Or is it by some fluke of being
They wink out of existence
Never more to be seen
A thought that I just cannot bear

Some they want you to multiply
Did they ask their permission
Would you like it if someone came
And doubled or tripled your family

There are others they treat even worse
They twist and bend and break them
Once they have finished doing that
They are only a fraction of former self

So now you know what worries me
This treatment soon must cease
Lest in the midst of night they arise
For they far outnumber us
