The knowledge I have given man empowers him to chart his own destiny Will it be for his betterment or his detriment I can only wait and see

About this poem:
Personification of Technology. Technology itself is not responsible for the ills associated with it. It is the use of technology. And who decides that?
As always dear friend , your poetry always give food for thought I was just having a conversation only 2 days ago with a friend of mine and we were discussing the same topic :-)) Yes ,indeed , there are many areas of modern living where technology has improved the quality of people's lives .... but in many aspects of society and life in general , it may also have eroded many social skills . There are many pro's and con's -and as you rightly say ,a lot depends on the person behind the computer / machine etc. A subject matter for huge and wide reaching debate for sure ! Well done dear Socrates on your thought provoking piece! Warm wishes always -Fiona

Hi Serenity
Thank you for your comment. Indeed, this is a topic for serious discussion with regard to living in the world today. You have highlighted the issue quite well. As I said in the footnote, Technology gives us the options, it is up to us to choose its use. I hope others on the corner would join in the debate. Best wishes to you as usual and have a wonderful day!
Awesome write...The way things are going technology-wise...man charts his own destiny...to one day become obsolete maybe? I hope that time will never come....

Hello Socrates technology has no time, even the use of simple tools by primitive man was technology ,so I think your verses allude to the concept of free will, then I will express my opinion of the idea of human free will, we know the human nature, but not the intrinsic essence ,we do not know the origin of it..if human existence goes through pre-established laws.. then where is the free will? What is the meaning of human self-determination ? our thinking, our ability to produce arguments , to make choices such as.. going to a place rather than another ,to love one person rather than another, are perhaps the product of synaptic impulses between neurons content in our brain ? If there was free will, we should be able to choose to "produce" certain synapses rather than others , but.. to make a choice we have to produce other impulses that create the subsequent pulses , and so on.. ad vitam aeternam ..is the human knowledge only the result of energetic impulses and chemical reactions between the elementary components we are made.............................. or................................................................does God exists ?

Hi orientalkoru
Thank you for your comment. The effects of technology on mankind has been both positive and negative. Let's all hope that the situation does not come to the point that you mentioned. Have a wonderful day!

Hi Jokerman73
Thank you for your comment. I agree with you that primitive man's use of tools was technology. The debate of predestination vs free will is probably as old as the human race itself. Nevertheless, I think that most people in western society see humankind as possessing free will, hence the view expressed in my piece.
You state "If there was free will, we should be able to 'produce' certain synapses rather than others,.." Perhaps we do, according to the following research article entitled "People Control Thoughts Better When They See Their Brain Activity."
Very interesting poem Socrates, I feel that God gave the knowledge to mankind....technology therefore is manmade...None of us alive today will be around long enough to see the answers..... in my view !

Here I immediately recall a quote about the fact that it is better to teach a person how to catch a fish than to give him a fish.
This is very interesting Socrates ……. Only stumbled on this today ……… if man uses technology to solve al the issues we have created for ourselves then hopefully we will find balance……. When we have found this then the earth , mankind will be in a better place …….. regards Nu

Reports that say that something hasn't happened are always interesting to me, because as we know, there are known knowns; there are things we know we know. We also know there are known unknowns; that is to say we know there are some things we do not know. But there are also unknown unknowns—the ones we don't know we don't know. And if one looks throughout the history of our country and other free countries, it is the latter category that tends to be the difficult ones
