SUMMER FLAME

Vivid vermilion, bursting with warmth and life
Lining length of streets where we live
A beautiful sight I can't help but seek
Each and every time I'm out on the streets

Harbinger of warmer months to come
Slightly dryer soil gives more buds to bloom
Hollering jungle's rhythm, her majesty's here
Announcing the coming of each brand new year

Shapely limbs that reaches far and wide
Offering respite from heat morn'n 'til eventide
Pregnant with heavy buds and dense green foliage
Soon to carpet every inch of ground in the yard

From striking flow'rs,feathery leaves to shapely pods
Flaccid green when young soon age to woody dark brown
On sturdy branches suspended, looking flamboyant
Promising a display of colours most bright and grand

Covered in corymbs, your beautiful limbs
Spotted in yellow and white, such a dream
Swaying merrily with a gentle wind, happiness gleams
In every Royal Poinciana tree I've seen!

About this poem:
I was missing NZ Christmas trees, the pohutokawas in bloom this time of the year...then I remembered Ponciana trees are everywhere here.. like pohutokawa trees they also herald the coming of the new year...I wrote this last night and as I am posting it now I checked if I have the spelling right...to my surprise I found a song about the tree... written long before I was born. It just shows how easily these trees can captivate an admiring soul...

Its so beautiful my friend. A tree that's so pleasing to the eyes because of its attractive flowers.

I'm sure you'll be back to your hometown one day and once more or many times more just enjoy it.
Love

Very descriptive imagery composed in blissful fashion. Is the Royal Poinciana tree a National pride of your country? Enjoyed perusing your beautiful poem this morning Kathy.

Hi MM...no I don't think so...as far as I know these trees are natives of Madagascar but definitely growing well over here...helped shaped the character of the state we are in....wine
