Restless lake you’ve become all blue and grey Crashing waves now crust on your icy screes Hear the winter winds come howling away When cold drops below tolerable degrees
Faced with mighty hunger a gull awaits Motionless and crouched in its ruffled plume Ever searching eyes scanning sharp with fate Shimmering morsels with scales to consume
My thoughts drift slowly away like the snow Swirl lightly like dancing feathers or leaves All around me cast an eerie shadow grow Anything my mind perceives or believes
Quiet the days in dusky December Mirrored into my mind shall remember

About this poem:
The most surreal images of a late winter day sitting by a shoreline.
"Restless lake you’ve become all blue and grey Crashing waves now crust on your icy screes Hear the winter winds come howling away When cold drops below tolerable degrees"
you made me miss winter...except we have it in NZ between June - August...
Thanks Liam...this one was very special to me...for everyday in every corner of this world there are many interesting and sometimes beautiful things happening. The thing about winter is how dangerously beautiful it is....but nothing feels as desolate and also inviting then sitting on a frozen lake pulling perch through a hole in the ice on a sunny day....
Lovely sonnet Chris, I felt I could see the scene which is what we all seek. Rob

«My thoughts drift slowly away like the snow” - so true for December, thank you for that!
Oh I agree I do need those quiet times for reflection in nature a lot more than I find time for. It's always very recharging for me to seek the solitude and listen and watch the world I am only one small part of.

There is so much to see in life if only we take the time to open our eyes! Take the time to dream BIG!
