There was a squirrel that I did see, Spent all his time in a tiny tree, A short shrub really, No bigger than a bush, Everyone that saw it, thought it was bigger than it was, After a time the tree was trimmed, Till nobody lived in the tree but him, All alone with noone to hold, The squirrel died lonely and cold, There's a moral to this story, As anyone can see, Don't spend all your time in a tiny tree...

squirrels are from the rodent famley and usually where there is one there is alot more. I have a little squirrel living in my pine tree but the funny part is this single squrrel was never the same critter, turns out there is 4 living in my tree and 2 in the neabors and several others in the other trees.

A poem with strong meaning and message. Very good concept.
the words in your poem came to me this morning mad, 'After a time the tree was trimmed, Till nobody lived in the tree but him, All alone with noone to hold,..'
... i wept for i saw they took down some precious trees in my neighborhood
I feel that beautiful...grew up in the washington woods..used to hike literally for days seeing nothing but nature...went recently for a visit and was super sad...clear cut forest logged as far as the eye could see...butchered stumps... ..
Thanks for reading and commenting Mimzy...squirrels are funny creatures...ever see the video of the drunken one that ate the fermented pumpkin...hilarious

Tony how did I miss this? Glad to see you around SR
Great message madtat......as we age we are not supposed to act reckless, but that is the difference between youth and maturity....caution.....I can imagine nothing worse than being confined to a small area...unless it was being alone.....Kathy

When I was visiting my Daughter in Ohio, I would feed the birds, the birds had to wait till the Squirrels had their fill, I loved watching their antics. Lovely poem Tony.
Maybe he died of old age. and Mrs. Squirrel passed away before he did! Just teasing! Thank you for sharing. But please don't be like the squirrel. Get out there and live the life you would like to live and live it to the fullest!!
I keep my circle very small..its about social circles too in a way...thanks princess

I absolutely loved your write...but that poor little baby...cold and alone. I live on a very large planet, but only allow a select few into the private world of my being.!

I was in London back in 2015. Anyway, I was in Hyde Park; and I saw two or three squirrels sitting there on the grass, in a little group, so tame, and just begging for bits of food off people.
Anyway, that a busy city could do that to animals, to take away their basic nature, just made me so sad, at the time. OK, so I was a bit sensitive, about the squirrels. Not to worry, there are more wild and natural ones in the park, out near Crystal Palace way.

I refer only to the squirrels in Hyde Park. London is a totally awesome city apart from that!
