For far too long I have carried this torch Walking over hot coals, my feet sorely scorched It flickered with the light of a star lit candle Much more than one single heart could handle
It absorbed my life but brought little satisfaction It always searched to find your loves reaction It sought the beam of passionate emission Always seeming turned off, in darkened submission
But still it glowed like a homing beacon Just for your affection to guide your minds reason All you had to do was press the hearts switch But your fingers held back, resisting their twitch
If two lights could never hope to meet Then singular love is a sorrowful lonely street Like the memories of time it will eventually fade Like the passing of the last old soldiers parade
For the torch of love cannot forever stay bright? When the batteries of life fail in their sight
