if only they knew.......

it's australia day here
we celebrate with joy
the journey of our forefathers
no need to be coy
but on the other side
they have a different view
their land was invaded
a day that they rue
but that was when respect
was a one sided affair
and history talks of people
who did not care
since then
so many have come
from all parts of the world
to get what's done
they have carved their lives out
of blood sweat and tears
modernized a country
to alleviate their fears
built a nation
proud and strong
never really accepting
the history of their wrong
but silently the first people
keep their culture real
building on foundations
thousands of years reveal
an absolutely amazing race
their art and music define
a day for remembrance
a day to be kind..........
