If you could turn back the hands of time
what would change within your mind
if you knew then what you know now
would the effort you make lighten your brow

would sorry be your favourite word
and nothing ever.....ever absurd
would you bite your tongue and knuckle down
use a smile instead of a frown

would darkness be absolved by light
would your days shine into the night
would you change your ways for the best
working tirelessly without rest

would happy thoughts always be there
positive emotions always to share
directions and goals everywhere
always venturing nothing to spare

i don't know if much would change
you are you and are not to blame
life is what it's meant to be
it's your journey just wait and see

i am where i am because of what i've done
there is only so much that could be undone
sometimes choice is not yours to make
and what happens next is a mistake

but i am so lucky for i am whole
apart from a finger tip and its role
precious is the air i breathe
no need for anger or to seethe

where i end up i'll not know
how i got there well that's still to show
i'll go easy on myself for now
and leave the past alone.......somehow
