Ah.....Sweet Youth part 1

April 1971 The Baltimore Sun (newspaper)

the kicker read "Nine Juvenile Girls Arrested"
headline read "Seventeen Nabbed in Drug Raid"
boy, was I in the wrong place at the wrong time!
caught in circumstance with no reason nor rhyme!
I was eighteen, met a girl nineteen
'course I instantly dug her. see, she was my first
me in my dazed state, what's not to like?
to be with a woman satisfying my thirst
my girl's name was Joanie
met her through her brother
she had an apartment
she shared with four others
two other girls and two oddnik guys
with only two bedrooms between the five
crazy Red was an awol army guy from San Diego
space Bob was from Germany (with no papers to show)
with all the bodies, they were in quite a fix
and then I came aboard, now we total six
one bedroom was taken by Nancy alone
while the other was shared by Betty and Joan
crazy Red and Betty, or Joan and I
came to share said bedroom, every other night
Bob always had the couch to rely on
such an arrangement could sometimes lead to a fight
so crazy Red and Bob went to speak to the landlord
of letting a second apartment that we could afford
got a green light, she had one she would rent them
the size of the apartment and the rent was the same
they made enough money, that wasn't a problem
but for rent and utilities, they needed my name
so silly young me put my name on the line
be square in with Joanie, I really felt fine
for this is the way to really feel right
now we would have our own bedroom each night
so, these two fellows(to which now I was partnered)
worked for cash at a carwash each day
but soap and water wasn't all they were selling
to the customers who came their way
(loose cannons running loose among the nation
who spend their lives avoiding documentation)
on another side of town, I had my own life
folks and friends and a job of my own
the only thing that we three guys had in common
was that we all turned up living with Joan
so, these jerks at the carwash were planning a party
and inviting all that they met to attend
meanwhile their act of dealing drugs was so foolhardy
should be no surprise, was to come to an end
