OWEGO - MY ADOPTED HOME

Embedded image from another site
I may not be an Owego native bred and born
But this small town has certainly become my home
Front Street flowers in Spring is hard to compare
People drive by just to stop and stare

The Susquehanna River twists and turns gently by
While all kinds of birds overhead fly
The Park is lined all over with old Hickory trees
Welcoming all while blowing in a gentle breeze

When you venture out to walk down the street
You know and speak to everyone you greet
Sometimes it is like stepping back in time
Or is it that the rest of the World is far behind

You can travel all over the World
But you will never find a more precious pearl
For nowhere you go can compare to home
No matter how far and how long you roam

About this poem:
I was born and grew up 10 miles up the road in another town, but I love the town I live in. Owego was voted the "Coolest Small Town in America" in 2009 by Budget Travel Magazine - check it out!

Thank you Bill. I really love the area I live in (well - I could do without winter but I really love spring, summer and all). I would dearly miss the hills and trees if I moved somewhere else as well as the flowers. The Finger Lakes are absolutely gorgeous and Owego is considered the gateway to Cayuga Lake off Federal Route 86 (locally known as Route 17). Elmira also has a lot to offer tourists with Civil War battlefield and cemetery with both Union and Confederate stories. The famous Mark Twain lived in Elmira.teddybear angel2

Just had to add this that I found on Facebook which pretty well describes what God did for UPSTATE NEW YORK. Yes - there is a whole BIG STATE that is NOT NEW YORK CITY!! So please do not automatically ask someone about the city. Upstaters are very sensitive about being included in the city!!
