The rain it whispers in my ears, Of beauty and of tears, So full of danger and of life, It pounds the earth, It creates such strife. The squirrel’s granary is done, Those days of sorrow and of fun, And now the chills of winter must abate, Amid the stars, the warming grate. You speak to me of forbidden love, The work of days and calloused hands, That sits inside that sacred glove, And remind me of those other lands. Sleep well all those I have ever cared, I tried so hard as raindrops glistened, Those spots of time we together shared, Believe me for I always listened.

About this poem:
I was reading through the poetry of Elo and it inspired me to write this. It's great that we can be inspired by other "poets."
this is deeply moving, Rob! thanks for sharing this with us
a beautiful inspiration too

Yes Rob other poets do inspire us and this is just so beautiful, loved the last eight lines.I dont know why but when it rains a kind of sadness ovetakes one and if it lashes it causes agitation too.I just loved this poem.It dreated mixed feelings in the mind.

There's a whole host of great lines in this work - and more than a hint of melancholy.
This poem has just reminded me that you will be in the depths of Winter in your corner of the globe, whilst here in England the first match in 'The Ashes' series starts tomorrow (well actually, it begins in Wales at Cardiff).
One of your finest efforts in my opinion Rob, an enjoyable read.
Cheers
Bill

Hi Beautiful,
The nature of poetry and art is such a strange concoction and we each of us draw on some sort of emotional inspiration. Often it's a subconscious thing as this one certainly was. It was also inspired by the rain and cold of a winter's night, so Nature had it's part too. Anyway thanks for taking the time to read and comment.

Hi Paloma,
Well there were mixed feelings in my mind too so I'm glad I imparted that. What an incredible journey we go through in life and we only have those little "spots of time" (Wordsworth) together. Thanks for your considered thoughts.
I cannot recall you penning a more emotional poem Rob, I enjoyed the blend of life and seasons. It flows very nicely, if this is a new direction for you then we hope to see more. Rob

Hi Bill,
There is definitely a touch of melancholy in this poem and probably some subconscious symbolism. Mr Keats certainly had an influence as well as Mr Wordsworth. I'll let you suss out the allusions.
Yes it's the depths of winter here...but it's a brief one in Australia.
My question to you as a cricket lover is: can you Poms get your act together again? I think our Ashes team is pretty strong. So you're on the home turf now. You won't get a much better chance. Am I mixing up sports or does your team have an Australian coach too?
Have fun Bill, Cheers, Rob

Hi Mick,
Yes acceptance and forgiveness. The things we learn. Resentment is not a very positive emotion. We just have to accept and enjoy the wonderment of each day and appreciate our common humanity.
Cheers mate. Good to see you out there and as generous as ever.

Ouch! We indeed have an Aussie coach, Trevor Bayliss (as I'm sure you know quite well ) As it happens, my fav county cricket team Yorkshire have an Aussie coach too - Jason Gillespie who is making a great name for himself on the county circuit, and who was also approached for the England job before Bayliss was appointed.
Cutting to the chase Rob, this first test at Cardiff looks like it could be a classic, just after lunch on day 2 and already a feast of great cricket!
Hoping you are fit and well buddy - take care...

Rob there is a positivity about you and I'm sure you can enjoy the wonderment of each day and accept things as they come and go.I'm trying to do the same and you do through your comments here send out positive vibes. We glean experience from others. At times what happens seems incomprehensible to me but when others prompt us to see things differently it becomes easier. Cheers Rob!
