Goodby's

With every ‘goodbye’ you learn that letting go is easier said
With every letting go it gets easier, or harder, depending
on how your heart was feeling as you opened your eyes
that morning

You learn the subtle difference between ‘soldiering on”
…and how it feels to collapse inside
you learn that ‘defeat’ is not a word you want
in your head today

You learn that endurance is fortifying
and that pain is only a visitor
she will stop coming to knock at
your door
when you no longer need her

You learn, and keep on learning until
one day
you realise that you no longer need lessons
that the light at the end of the tunnel
even though .... just a speck
is getting brighter
and brighter
and that all is as it should be.

About this poem:
I should be saying 'hello' after an absence 3-4 years. I am back though and was inspired to put pen to paper once again. Reflecting on the 'letting go' process we all have to learn to do in life.

Nicki..
How beautifully written this is.

Some lessons in life are 'very hard in the learning', and this perhaps is the hardest of all.

"You learn the subtle difference between ‘soldiering on”
…and how it feels to collapse inside"...WOW...!!!!
