careless love

I was absent, the day you left me
just like so many times before
so at the time, I didn't miss you
I never heard the closing door
you left a message, that you had gone away

I never noticed you weren't there
as if I didn't have a care
never noticed you weren't there
til found the note left on the stair
I broke down and cried "don't leave me this way"

but it was far too late for tears
there was nothing I could say
forced to face my fears
for now you've gone away
so, curled into a ball, upon that stair
now, much too late...I had a care

Hi, hedidstuff,
Although I infer from never noticed...never noticed that it wasn't the leaving but the manner of leaving that caused the narrator to have a care, sometimes one does not "know what you've got until you lose it". Thanks for sharing.
