roses laid out for your memory not only for the dead but for the living as well you gave your courage and strength for me so that I can write this for the world to see
you were not asked but ordered I am sure that is how it goes to pick up your helmet and your sword and bled to die defending your post
while I wasn't there to witness the brutalities and atrocities you went through I imagine with a living soul it must have been hellish for you
some of you came back home lucky with no scar and or physical pain but the trauma of terror etched in your memory will haunt you until the end
today as fitting as it should the world giving you this day of tribute but I know deep in my heart you deserve even more than that
I hope therefore that you feel good knowing you have done a heroic job defending our country and what we believe in and peace reigns for all of us and our children.
Salute to all those in one way or another contributed to securing our peace. Dead and also for those living.

About this poem:
For our soldiers and when it says memorial, I hope it doesn't only honor those who died but also for the living who are going through more trauma as a result of their experience being in the war front.
Our soldiers are not always welcomed back home with open arms. I'm from the Vietnam area and what are soldiers went through over there was pure hell. A lot of them came back I'm sure with PTSD but it wasn't called that back then. As for Agent Orange, it's like 911 of New York City. BTW - let us not forget the men and women of 911 who put their lives on line as well for citizens in danger. Thank you for this great tribute Lindsy.
Thank you South for your read and comment. I feel they are the most underrated with all our respects and benefits. A neighbor of mine served in Iraq and the trauma he has gone through is now affecting his family life and stability. But he recognizes the need to recover and rehabilitate to become normal again. The wife is the one I pity most seeing him everyday like this.
Kathy yes of course, I pray and hope that all who in one way or another contributed to the services including the victims of 9'11 be honored as they deserved. My uncles both served in the 2WW as well as my mom and lucky for my mom she lived so long to tell us all the horrors and brutalities of war while uncle both were tortured and killed by the Japanese in front of my grand mother and the whole village so as to encourage defecting from the US loyalty. No way, they opted to get tortured and killed. My grandmother was so horrified until she passed away 20 years later.
I'm so sorry what you family suffered during the war. Your uncles died true heroes. I thank them and honor them for choosing peace over war. And I'm so sorry your grandmother had to see it. What a horrible thing to see happen to her sons.
Hi, lindsyjones, Salute to all those in one way or another contributed to securing our peace. Dead and also for those living. Thank you for sharing your poetic tribute to those who sacrifice so much for the welfare of their fellow citizens. May we each live lives worthy of such sacrifices.
